I'm running WinXP Pro SP 2.

I went through all the steps here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/34773/preparation-guide-for-use-before-using-malware-removal-tools-and-requesting-help/

I've used Vundo, VirtuBegone, Norton AV, BitDefender, Housecall, McAfee Stinger, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, & Ad-Aware. Norton & BitDefender (& Vundo) have all identified Virtumonde, and tried to remove it. BitDefender in particular identified c:\windows\system32\pmkjg.dll as being infected, but I have not been able to delete this file, it's usually locked by lsass.exe, winlogon.exe, explorer.exe, etc. I booted into Safe Mode w/command line and tried to remove the DLL but could not - access denied.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi tfish77

I will be helping you with your problems.

Please rename Hijackthis.

To do this navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ and then right click on Hijackthis.exe and select rename.

Rename it to Demon.

Post the resultant log in a reply to this thread.

Regards DC

Demon Cleaner,

Thank you for the reply - however I already threw in the towel and re-installed Windows (as I had only set up the machine a few weeks ago and didn't have a ton of stuff to reinstall at this point).
