Hi:

I have been helped by "waterfalls", who gave me EXCELLENT help in the following thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/114910/backdoor-win32zonebacb-whataboutadog-and-doginhispen-infections/

After running ComboFix, the WinBudget malware was removed successfully.
However, in a scheduked scan, Window Defender found the following:

WINDOWS DEFENDER log:

Adware:Win32/CPVFeed

Category:
Adware

Description:
This program has potentially unwanted behavior.

Advice:
Review the alert details to see why the software was detected. If you do not like how the software operates or if you do not recognize and trust the publisher, consider blocking or removing the software.

Windows Defended then successfully REMOVED the files.

I was now wondering if the qoobox folder should be removed as there are still other files in there.

Hello Yello,

I was now wondering if the qoobox folder should be removed as there are still other files in there.

You can delete the following folder.
C:\QOOBOX <===folder

Since you have used Combofix before, please uninstall the version you have and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

To uninstall ComboFix, go to to Start > Run & type in ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Disconnect from the Internet while running ComboFix.

Temporarily disable any anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause unpredictable results.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe to your Desktop.
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the ComboFix log and a fresh Hijackthis log in your next reply.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".

Hi SifuMike:

I uninstalled the old ComboFix as directed. I downloaded the new ComboFix to my desktop from your link. I disconnected from the Internet and disabled all anti-virus and anti-malware real-time protection.

When I ran ComboFix, it returned a "stack overflow" message and a dialogue error box, a copy of which is attached. It then automatically uninstalled ComboFix.
I rebooted and tried again with a new download, but I got the same error.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Hi Yello,

ComboFix is not working at the moment, so we will use another tool.

Download Deckard's System Scanner to your desktop:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe

Make sure all running programs and Windows Explorer windows are closed.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it,then follow the prompts.
The scan may take a few minutes to complete.

When the scan has finished,a text file will open 'main.txt'.

Please Note:
When running Deckard's System Scanner, some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet, please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

Also,it may happen that your Antivirus flags Deckard's System Scanner as suspicious.
Please allow the Deckard's System Scanner to run and don't let your Antivirus delete it.
(If necessary temporarily disable/turn off your Antivirus program).

Post the main.txt from the Deckard's System Scanner into your next reply please. (Do not post the extra.txt - only post extra.txt when being asked)

What Deckard's System Scanner will do:
create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.

clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.

check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
Deckard's System Scanner automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
If I've saved you time & money,
please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

Hi Yello,

You Deckard's System Scanner scan looks clean, as does your Hijackthis log.

Lets run ComboFix.

You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert. It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

If you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you have and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

Post the ComboFix log in your next reply.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.
Do NOT run ComboFix more than once.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".

Hi Yello,

That log looks clean.

Uninstall ComboFix, go to to Start > Run & type in ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Hi SifuMike:

I uninstalled ComboFix successfully.

Thank you for the "reading" material.

By the way, if I now unhide the file extensions and the system/hidden files, is there any added risk from an infection perspective?

Thanks a lot for your assistance.

No there is no added risk from a malware infection if you unhide the file extensions and the system/hidden files.

But there is a danger in that you may accidentally delete a vital system window file from your computer, so you have to be very careful when deleting files.

Microsoft Windows will hide all file extensions by default.

The idea is that most people won't want to bother with extensions, since changing a file extension can cause trouble (if you change it to the wrong thing) and since Windows mostly takes care of dealing with extensions behind the scenes,

However, there may be times when you want to see file extensions. Perhaps you just like to know what is going on behind the scenes, or perhaps you have a file with the wrong extension and you need to change it.

By default Windows hides certain files from being seen with Windows Explorer or My Computer. This is done to protect these files, which are usually system files, from accidentally being modified or deleted by the user. Unfortunately viruses, spyware, and hijackers often hide there files in this way making it hard to find them and then delete them.
