I've been having problems for the past few months with popups and I've noticed that my computer continuously gets slower. I've deleted lots of files to try to make it faster but it doesn't work. I always run ad-aware and spybot search and destroy on a daily basis. Ad-aware hasn't found anything, but spybot always tells me I have something called Smitfraud core something or another. I try to fix it but it always says it's in use in the memory and asks if I'd like to run it on my next start up. I say yes, but it still tells me the problem can't be fixed. Here's my hijack log... someone help, please!

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum CrystalRose1001
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Disconnect from the Internet.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
*Note*
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

I did what you said using the OTMoveit thing:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhkmp.ini2 moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hjllm.ini2 moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\knnmp.bak1 moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\knnmp.bak2 moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\knnmp.ini2 moved successfully.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pstwa.ini2 moved successfully.

Created on 11/11/2007 17:43:23

I saved what you said as fix.reg, (except file type "all files" wasn't an option - only "Web page complete (*.htm, *.html)", "Web Archive, Single File (*.mht)", "Web page HTML only (*.htm, *.html)", and "Text File (*.txt)" double clicked it, and said yes but a thing came up saying, "Cannot import: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.

My computer is running a lot better and there are no more popups. The only problem I'm having is when I try to open Limewire it tells me that it was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment and to download and install a newer version from java.com. I thought I had the newest version now?

The only problem I'm having is when I try to open Limewire it tells me that it was unable to load the Java Runtime Environment and to download and install a newer version from java.com. I thought I had the newest version now?

You're running P2P/filesharing programs.
Many of these programs come bundled with unwanted components/malware.
If you wish to find out whether the one you're using does, click Here.

Even if you are using a so called "safe" program,it's only the program that's safe.
You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected.
The bad guys use filesharing programs as a major source to spread their crap.
I suggest you uninstall it/them,wether you do or not thats entirely up to you.

I don't see any signs of the latest version of Sun Java installed in your Hijackthis log.
Make sure you installed it correctly, try uninstalling/reinstalling it.

Your log is clean
If all's ok,please do the following:
