Ok this should be an easy one for most of you.

I have a Compaq Presario 1800t that I got in 2001. I've gone through a couple operating systems already and right now it has just been reformatted (again) and currently has no OS. I would like to install XP on it. I tried 2000 but when I put the CD in and allowed it to be read it gave me a prompt like "error reading disk, put another disk in and press any key." Something like that. Is it just a bad disk or bad copy of 2000? The only thing I could do was restart. Am I not doing something right? I was using an ME boot disk when I last reformatted. Does that have anything to do with it? It doesn't seem like it should. I thought I should be able to load any OS onto it now that it is reformatted. I want to try XP now because I have a copy. Any help is much appreciated. TIA

Is your bios on the computer set to boot from a cd? If you put the xp cd in the cd tray and boot with it in, does it boot from the cd?

I'm not sure if it's set to boot from CD. I was sure that it was set like that since that's how i've done it in the past. But now I can't get 2000 or XP to work. For both of them I get "Invalid system disk. Replace the disk, and then press any key." There's gotta be something up. It can't be the disks that are bad. I tried typing "setup" on the E drive but that did nothing. I'm really lost here. I hope i'm not screwed. I just want an OS on this thing. This is really frustrating. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks again.
