Please help me clean my computer of this annoying virus or malware whatever it is! Like many others who have posted recently, my computer has also been infected with this htepo thing. And those IE pop-ups are making me crazy! I also have those 2 fake "security" software icons under "start".

Symantec keeps finding the following: Trojan.Vundo and Downloader. It does a partial quarantine on Downloader, but repeated quarantines of the Vundo don't seem to work because it just keeps coming back and the pop-ups don't stop.

I followed all the steps in the preparation guide for use before a HijackThis log. So here is my log below. I'd really appreciate someone helping me look at this and helping me fix this problem. I don't understand what it says at all.

Hi Richie, glad to hear back from someone. Just to let you know, I disabled system restore, restarted in safe mode, did a full system virus scan with symantec, deleted all the trojan.vundo files, restarted in normal mode, and then enabled system restore and I still got the bug back! i was trying different things all day. Below is the HijackThis Log.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad".
This changed in 2006,read this article:
http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

You are well advised to remove the program now.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present,then restart your pc:
Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java,and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Disconnect from the Internet.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
*NOTE*
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix,please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Now go to:
C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
Right click on Hijackthis.exe and select 'Rename', rename it to abc.bat
Double click on abc.bat(which is still Hijackthis.exe),post that log into your next reply please.

I followed your instructions. It's interesting, during the time I'm downloading and removing programs, still got those pop-ups and symantec was still catching the same downloader and trojan.vundo repeatedly.

So, am I in the clear? Is everything fixed? Things seem to be functioning much better and no pop-ups as of yet!

Below is the info from Combofix:

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oijwinju.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\djpgwfov.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jskesvtk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lbphtlxi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fomctjgy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\opnnopm.dll
C:\Program Files\msbb.log
C:\Program Files\msbb_kyf.dat
C:\Program Files\msbbau.dat
Folder::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{2ae720f1-c2a2-4815-aa62-4bfb84e5c3f4}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{634BBAB7-3F60-4426-944F-A62B9007F67F}]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"58878f6e"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellExecuteHooks]
"{634BBAB7-3F60-4426-944F-A62B9007F67F}"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\opnnopm]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"Authentication Packages"=hex(7):6d,73,76,31,5f,30,00,00

Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe as seen in the image below.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

During the F-secure online scan, I was trying to use the CD-rom, bad idea, it made the whole computer restart and when it did, there was a window that said the computer had suffered a fatal error, the error notice was sent, and afterwards, I just restarted the whole online virus scan. Here's the report:

Some questions:
Just some questions, if my computer is fully clean, what do I do with all the programs I recently downloaded and their .exe files on my desktop?

Also, I was really surprised to see some cookies from websites I never would have gone to and from the F-secure scan, it seems that the disinfection didn't really happen. Also, 2 of the trojans: Vundo.gen41 and Vundo.gen42 didn't have the option to disinfect. So, I really hope I'll never see those suckers again.

And here's the HijackThis Log:

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vofwgpjd.ini

Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe as seen in the image below.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Not sure if you saw my questions from last entry:

If my computer is fully clean, what do I do with all the programs I recently downloaded and their .exe files on my desktop?

Also, I was really surprised to see some cookies from websites I thought I never went to and from the F-secure scan, it seems that the disinfection didn't really happen. Also, 2 of the trojans: Vundo.gen41 and Vundo.gen42 didn't have the option to disinfect. So, I really hope I'll never see those suckers again.
