A few days ago I, by mistake, downloaded AdwareAlert instead of Ad-Ware SE PERSONAL. The Title of the Web site read Adware se pernal (correct spelling, I believe) instead of Ad-Ware SE Personal that was just down below it. Saved it (AdwareAlert) and then ran the program and within several minutes I noticed my firewall was giving a lot of popups. Not thinking amything was wrong I let the program to allow to get on the internet. Every few seconds I was getting popups with so and so program wanting to get on line using Internet Explorer. I knew something was wrong and did a scan with, first Spyware Doctor and it found 3 Tracking Cookies and deleted them and a few minutes later ran Spybot S&D and by then it had found 23 items. Tracking cookies, Dialers, Hackers and a Trojan. As soon as I saw these I disconnected my computer from my modem and uninstalled the AdwareAlert program , & doing a search for ANY document bearing the same of AdwareAlert in all files and folders and deleting these. Ran scan after scan using Spyware Doctor, Ad-Ware 2007 & Spybot S&D nothing else has been found. I have been doing a scan with each program each time I start up the computer for the last 4 days to make sure. What I would like to know do you see anything still on my computer that needs to deleted?

Hi,

I don't see anything else wrong in your log. If the symptoms (popups) that you had when the crapware was installed is gone now then you are probably OK.

I would suggest you run SuperAnitSpyware for a final check--it's the best I've seen at removing these type programs.

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSypware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.
