If I'm not mistaked they're downloaded first to a temporary folder and then placed into their
"home" if you will. I don't have the exacts at this moment, but are the security updates causing
some issues on your computer?

Well, I have XP Home.

My guess would be that the C:/Windows/msdownload.tmp folder woud be used, but that's only a guess.

I'm curious as to why you are asking.

Thank you hamluis but i guess any such folder doesn't exist in xp pro.I typed the path in "run" and it showed error path.May be the folder is created after the updated starts downloading.lets see I have just turned on my auto update. As I earlier said the reason is i want to collect them so that I can use them whenever I format my PC in future. If anybody else have any idea please help.Thank you.

Another way is to use the (currently undergoing restructuring) program called Autopatcher.
