Hello Grinler, and thanks for replying to my post, you've probably heard it a hundred times before, but it really is appreciated.
Did the search and found it (although there's no .exe after the [1] ) the only thing i've left out is my name, which lies between settings and startmenu.

C:\ Documents and Settings\ NAME \ StartMenu\ Programs\Startup

Thanks again for the reply and looking forward to hearing from you.I've just got off the graveyard shift so i'm off to get some much needed sleep.

Bye for now.

Download killbox here:

KillBox

Unzip the folder to your desktop.

Start Killbox.exe

When it is open, enter Settings\PUTYOURNAMEHERE\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\winupdate38523672[1].exe into the field labeled "Full path of file to delete".

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.

Your computer will reboot and check to see if the file is gone.

Did as you instructed (four times to make sure i got it right) The file is still there.
The computer didn't reboot itself i had to do it manually.
After pressing the red button with a white x, i had a number of messages appear on the screen.

1. All listed files will be deleted on Next Reboot.
2. Files will be Removed on Reboot, Do you want to Reboot now?
3. Verifying Registry Entries.
4. Pending File Rename Operation Registry Data has been Removed By External Process.

That's it for now, thanks for your time and patience and looking forward to hearing from you again.

New log as requested, two things that may be of importance, my PC seems to be painfully slower, and when i'm on the net i've been getting a message that says IE has encountered a problem and has to close.

Here's the log.

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

Some sites give popups with malware being installed on your machine. Its when you go to sites like google or cnn and you get a lot of popups that bother me. Or if your not browsing at all and getting popups.

I've kept my browsing to a minimum while i've had this nuisance, the only site i've been to is BC, and i've downloaded some music from winmx, i've used winmx for sometime and never had any problems before. I even had a pop up just then when i used the spelcheck facility.

I really appreciate your time and patience here, The PC's def running better, and the pops far less frequent, and no about blank. One more thing, i've noticed a file in my int/temp folder, it says it's a data file and can't be deleted cos something else is using it?

Here's the new log as requested.Cheers.
