Recently installed the latest version of Avant browser. I have set it not to be my default browser or to check if it is default on start up. I have Firefox set as my default browser and to check if it is on start up. The problem is every time I launch Avant and use it it makes itself the default browser. I know this because when I launch Firefox it says it's not the default and also if I wan to set it as the default. I do and when I use Avant again it steals the default browser setting again. I asked about this on the Avant forum and nobody has a solution. Most people on the Avant forum use that browser as their default so they don't care if it makes itself default. Any suggestions on how to stop this? I find this behaviour from a browser to be malware like.

Welcome to Bleeping Computer Anthony A

This is a good article on how to set Firefox as your Default Browser: Default Browser.

I don't have a problem setting Firefox as default. The problem is that Avant keeps setting itself as default every time I use it. I have Firefox 2, Maxthon 1, Maxthon 2, Opera 9.24, IE7 installed as well and none of them steal the deafult browser setting. If I set one as default it becomes default and the others do not just as it should be. Avant will set itself as default no matter what I set it at in the options.

I understand and have read your posts in the other forums.
My idea was to try and change the behavior in Firefox, as there doesn't appear to be a solution for changing Avant.

Another thing to try is an uninstall/ reinstall of Avant.

Been done many times. Also it's happiness on multiple machines so it's an Avant problem. I tried Googleing this and there isn't much about this problem except threads I have started on other forums. If this is just me and a few other people having the problem I wonder why? If it was just one machine I would think it was some fluke but as I said it's several machines it's happening on. It's annoying and I will probably end up dumping Avant which is too bad because it's not a bad browser other than the default browser problem.
