Hi there,

I have recently been getting a fake Windows pop up alert stating : "Warning possible Spyware Operation! " on my computer and have no access to my control panel. I also am getting a restricted message saying to contact my system administrator. I've run Norton Antivirus, Spybot, and Adaware with no luck to remove the pesky thing. Any help is appreciated.

Here is my Hijack log:

Hello,

* Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Doubleclick SmitFraudFix to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

(Warning : running option #2 will set your desktop background blank again. But you can reapply your desktop background again afterwards

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process.

Post the log from smitfraudfix in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

So
I tried to run in safe mode, but when it prompted me to clean registry and I tried to press Y a box appeared and said "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

Allright I tried once again to run Smitfraud in safe mode, but it stops me at registry cleaning and won't let me continue because of the box that says registry editing disabled by your administrator. Even when I restart my computer I cannot get a log from Smitfraud. Here is a current log from HJT:

Also some other interesting things going on : my task manager has been disabled and when my computer is in normal mode it pops up a message stating "Windows cannot find C:/windows/system32/printer.exe Make sure you typed the name correctly click start and search" ?? Not sure what that is, but it can't be good. Thanks for your help with this. I just took my computer in and spent almost $200 to get it fixed last month and now it sucks again!

Hi,

Yes, I am aware of the several issues this infection causes.
Please perform next steps in the right order please...

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\printer.exe
O3 - Toolbar: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ovkdnoiA] C:\WINDOWS\ovkdnoiA.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [autoload] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\smss.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [autorun] C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\smss.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinAVX] C:\WINDOWS\system32\WinAvXX.exe
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O7 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O8 - Extra context menu item: &AOL Toolbar search - res://C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML
O9 - Extra button: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: AOL Toolbar - {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} - C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll (file missing)
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: sulimo.dat
O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkjg - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjg.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: nnnligg - nnnligg.dll (file missing)
O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - C:\Program Files\Common Files\rtenefs.html
O24 - Desktop Component 1: (no name) - http://64.4.61.250/cgi-bin/getmsg/godkills...9dc0bbcd750a441

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Don't worry if some entries won't get fixed yet. Just proceed with next steps..

Then, * Go to start > control panel > Display properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop... > Web tab
Select everything you find in there (except for "My current home page") and press the delete button on the right.
Hit ok below > apply in previous window.

Then, * Download ComboFix from here.
**Save it to your desktop**

In case you have used Combofix before, please delete the version you are having and redownload it again, because Combofix is being updated everyday.

In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again. Because some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

* Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
In case you see a sed.cfexe error with the option to send a report or not, choose "don't send".

When finished and after reboot (in case it rebooted), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Hi,

Can you please perform the instructions I asked?

Because I asked you to run Combofix as well and post the log and I don't see that log here.
If you can follow the instructions properly, then we can also solve your problems. If you don't follow all instructions, then it's normal that your problems won't be solved either.

Hi,

Do you understand now why it is important you follow instructions

* Download: HostsXpert
Unzip hoster to an own folder, eg C:\HostsXpert
Start HostsExpert.exe, click 'Restore MS Hosts file' and click OK.

Then,

* Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\ovkdnoiA]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\runner1]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\SystemOptimizer]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Then... Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Then, * Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

ComboFix /u

Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Let me know in your next reply how things are now...
