Who I am ... and why I'm here !

I'm female, live in Ireland and - together with my other half - have been having fun with computers since we bought our first Vic 20. Thinking back - we probably got a bit carried away with the joys of learning BASIC ... we even used to take the blessed thing with us when taking a long week-end in our touring caravan.

We were equally enthralled by the C64, particularly when we discovered the Scott Adams' Adventure games ... mind you, they did seem to need an awful lot of paper to record notes, maps, special keys, etc !

In time, we progressed through various versions of DOS-based computers until - inevitably - there came a parting of the ways.

He, being a graphic designer, became a card-carrying Apple Mac addict. Me, being more inclined towards book-keeping and administration, became a Windows user.

Nowadays, neither of us would claim to have any great knowledge of our respective operating systems, but we do have a general appreciation and layman's understanding of what our machines are supposed to be doing.

Which brings me to why I'm here !

We both work from home these days, so need a modicum of self-sufficiency ... when things go wrong, there's no in-house IT department to pick up the pieces. It's either DIY or an expensive call-out.

Today, my XP Pro PC went on a go-slow and I was curious about a particular process running on my computer. A google search for the process's filename landed me on this site where I immediately found the definitive answer (in the Startup List).

Once here ... well I had to have a look around, didn't I ?

Having looked ... it was a logical step to join.

I may not have a specific question today, but the one thing I have learned - from the Vic 20 onwards - is that I'll surely have one soon !

Kind regards and thank you for the help I've already received.
