I was barraged earlier today with trojans and spyware programs and have been following the directions on this website and have removed many of them. What remains is this:

In the bottom right corner of screen (where the time is displayed) there is an icon that looks much like the Windows security center shield. It continuously flashes back and forth between the red background with a white "x" and a blue background with a white "?" symbol.

At regular intervals a bubble pops up from that icon that has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it and is titled "System Alert!". Below that it reads: "System has detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up to date antispyware solution."

Clicking on the icon opens the website: www.virusray.com/?aff=1003". This apparently is supposed to be an antispyware software program based in Latvia.

I also have a new icon on my desktop that is a green shield with a white checkmark that is titled "Security Troubleshooting". When I click on that I get a screen that mimics the Windows help and support format but is actually the website "www.protectmanual.com/test/?c=81205."

It answers all questions by suggesting you download one of several programs including WinSpyControl, AntiSpyGolden, VirusHeal, and MenaceRescue.

I know I have a serious problem here can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Here is the hijackthis log:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum theiconoclast
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri), to your desktop.
Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option 1 – Search, by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy and paste the content of that report into your next reply.
*IMPORTANT*
Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!
*Note*
process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes.
Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select #2 and hit Enter to delete the infected files.
You will be prompted: 'Do you want to clean the registry?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): 'Replace infected file ?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process.
The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Post the Smitfraudfix report into your next reply.

Double click on Combofix.exe again and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Richie,

So is it problem solved? Or are you still examining the last logs? Not trying to rush you or anything. I just wasn't sure if there was more still to be done.

If we are done, thanks again for your help. Also, do I need to be concerned about financial information being stolen, etc.?

If there is still more to be done, sorry about seeming impatient. I just wasn't sure where the situation stood.

Guess we weren't done by a long shot. I got as far as running the Super Anti-Spyware scan which detected several tracking cookies and some "Trojan media codec". When I tried to have them fixed, I was prompted to reboot the computer to finish the job. Unfortunately when the computer restarted I completely lost the ability to get on the internet. Everything else seemed to be working ok.

I did a system restore to before the Super Anti-Spyware program was installed and, as you can see, am able to get back on the internet. Should I try again?

Here is the hijack log. The computer seems to be running fine. It also seemed to be running fine after I ran the Superantispyware, except that I could not connect to the internet. Thanks again for your help.

oh boy. Something is definitely not right. In between the time of my last post and your last post, I started having problems with my internet connection again. Strangely enough, the only web pages that would come up are this forum and yahoo.com (my home page). Any other page I tried to open including yahoo subpages (i.e. Yahoo sports) I immediately got the screen that the page could not be opened.

Shortly after reading your last post, I lost all internet connectivity again. I just went into hijackthis and restored the "09"'s that you just had me fix in the last post and the "017"'s you had me remove in a previous post and I was immediately able to get back on the internet.

What in the world is going on?

Do you recognise the IP or Domain 63.245.253.253 - 63.245.253.254
If you're certain you don't recognise it,fix the following with Hijackthis:
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{1266FEB1-25B2-4606-8465-380B8D27ED88}: NameServer = 63.245.253.253,63.245.253.254
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{1266FEB1-25B2-4606-8465-380B8D27ED88}: NameServer = 63.245.253.253,63.245.253.254
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{1266FEB1-25B2-4606-8465-380B8D27ED88}: NameServer = 63.245.253.253,63.245.253.254

I asked you to be certain before removing the above.
Is everything running ok now then.

I know you did Richie. And, I was certain I didn't recognize any of those. Everything seems to be working ok now. But what about those "09"'s and all that stuff that the superantispyware picked up? Here's where everything stands now. Thanks for your patience. I don't have any idea about any of this.
