I don't know what kind of infection I have but I know that it redirects me to different webpages when I click google links and stuff. Also when I use msn im or windows im I get pop-unders. Fortunately it hasn't taken over my home page. I use firefox and internet explorer. I already have avg anti-spyware, ad-aware, spy sweeper, norton internet security/antivirus, and superantispyware, but all they've picked up recently is cookies. Here is the log.

Hi raebel and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

Please download FixWareout from one of these mirrors:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

After posting those,Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

I had some trouble with the first combofix run, when it asked me to allow it to reboot I waited for a while for it to do something and then hit enter. I guess I shouldve waited a little longer because I think I accidently stalled it. Then since it seemed to be frozen, I restarted my computer manually and for some reason my computer wouldnt reload to normal or even safe mode. It kept saying that it was missing something "config". So I had to restart from a restore point and then mostly everything worked. So I tried ComboFix again and waited and everything and it rebooted the compie itself and gave me this:
ComboFix 07-10-23.2 - Compaq_Owner 2007-10-27 23:42:52.1 - NTFSx86
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.133 [GMT -5:00]
Running from: C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\Desktop\ComboFix.exe

Because of the system restore I had to reinstall/update some of my programs, while others like HijackThis stayed downloaded and only looked like I'd just downloaded them. Heres the other HijackThis log:

Now because of the system restore thingie I've using Norton 2005 instead of 2007. Any ideas on how to get back all the programs I had without messing up the work I've already done? I did have a system restore point a few weeks before I even posted in here...

Sorry you had those issues, since the machine is running ok and you say the only thing you lost was Norton,we can fix that by uninstalling and reinstalling which probably isnt a bad idea anyways.

I assume you choose Last Known Good Configuration when you restored?

What you will need to know is your serial key for Norton 2007,I am assuming this is bought and paid for and there should be a record of your serial.

Im no fan of trying to use backups to restore Norton and after spending 6 years of live with Norton Internet Security,I speak from experience.

Ill give you a list of options when we get this sorted out,so your not fully confined to Norton,I know its something your use to and know how to understand but the detection rates for that Antivirus are amongst the worst in the industry,if it were the internet security package,Id say it would be worth keeping.

As it stands the PC looks like it feels much better now,so tell me what else appears to be missing since the restore?

Actually when the computer rebooted all I could do was hit the System Restore (F10) key. I didn't get to choose any options or last known configuration. However I think that ComboFix made a system restore point just before it tried to reboot my computer both times. Can I go to the system restore point that it made the first time? and how?
Also yes, I'm using Norton Internet Security 2007. Spysweeper has also been, "damaged", apparently I keep getting this message from it that I must "reinstall the product". Internet Explorer has reverted to the IE6 which is alright for me as the IE7 kept me from logging into some of my internet playlists and favorite games. My "found new hardware" keeps popping up everytime I reboot and tries to re-install my HP OfficeJet printer/fax/copier etc.. and my Logitech Quickcam stuff. Thats all I have found at the moment.
Gah I'm such an idiot...thanks for the help so far.

Ah,you used the Recovery Partition and restored the PC to the way it was the day you bought it.

Means you gotta start over completely with Norton, uninstall the old and reinstall the new,all when disconnected from the internet, they have a nice tutorial/guide that usually comes with the CD.

Bright side,I cant say I know much of any malware that can survive this Recovery/Restortion.

Get Norton fixed up and let me know what else we have to contend with.

hey I've finally gotten the norton 2007 reinstalled. Sorry it took so long. I also reinstalled spy sweeper and my webcam. I keep getting found new hardware messages for my printer. But when I try to launch my hp office jet printer on my start bar I get this message that "HPOmem05.dll" wasn't found and I should reinstall the application. I think that I need some sort of cd to do this but I can't recall anyone in my family using a cd when they installed the printer. hmm. also the catylist update that I had downloaded for my display driver isn''t working, I keep getting a message about " could not load file or assemblies 'CLI.Implementation' or one of its dependencies". But I think we are getting a new chipset for that.
