I appreciate any help!

I've tried removing these malwares many times using the same programs while in safe mode but they always come back. I think there is just one program loading the others. These include AdRevolver, CoreMetrics, DoubleClick, MediaPlex, TagASaurus.
I follwed your directions and ran all the programs adaware, stinger, spybot etc.. but not in safe mode as your directions did not mention this. then ran the new version of HiJackThis. Here is the log.

Hello shannon1716,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you.

You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
Disable your antivirus program and go here to run BitDefender Online Scan.
Click on I Agree.
Avoid clicking on other links as you don't need to try out the full install at this point, just the online scanner.

When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan".
Please be patient, as this scan may take a few hours. It all depends on the number of files on your computer.

NOTE: If you are running XP SP2, you may need to click on the Information Bar to allow the ActiveX to install and may need to repeat the BitDefender Online Scan.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab.
Click on "Click here to export scan".
Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop.
Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser.
Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here.
Post the BitDefender log.

******************

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware v7.5.
  • After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
  • Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
  • Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
  • Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, click "Next", then click "Install".
  • After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
  • Connect to the Internet, go back to AVG Anti-Spyware, select the "Update" button and click "Start update". Wait until you see the "Update successful" message. If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the AVG Anti-Spyware Full database installer from here.
  • Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.
Reboot your computer in "SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode". (Note: When run in safe mode, sometimes the GUI is larger than the screen and the buttons at the bottom are partly or completely hidden, making them unaccessible for doing a scan. If this is the case, press the WINKEY + M key to "Minimize" the AVG display. Then right-click on AVG in the Task Bar and select "Maximize". If that does not help, then you may have to run your scan in normal mode and advise your helper afterwards.)

Scan with AVG Anti-Spyware as follows:
  • Click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
  • Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
  • Under "How to Scan?", "Possibly unwanted software", and What to Scan?" leave all the default settings.
  • Under "Reports" select "Do not automatically generate reports" and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".
  • Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
  • Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
  • When the scan has finished, it should automatically be set to Quarantine--if not click on Recommended Action and set it there.
  • You will also be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.
IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button.
  • Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop.
A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\Reports\
  • Exit AVG Anti-Spyware when done, reboot normally and submit the log report in your next response.
Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. Doing so can hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.

AVG Anti-Spyware is free for 30 days and all the extensions of the full version will be activated. After the 30 day trial, active protection extensions will be deactivated and the program will turn into a feature-limited freeware version that you can can continue to use as an on-demand scanner or you may purchase a license to use the full version.

When done, submit the BitDefender log, the AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 log and a fresh Hijackthis log.

please make a donation so I can keep helping people just like you! You can donate using a credit card and PayPal. Thank you!

I have 4 anti-virus programs and now two more! Ok, I did as you ask but had trouble right away; Could not use the online scan, so downloaded the free trial and used it; Here is the log

I told you run the BitDefender online scanner, not the BitDefender free trail program.

AVG antimalware is not an antivirus program.

I have 4 anti-virus programs

What are they?

I (as well as MicroSoft, McAfee and Symantec) recommend that you DO NOT have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time.

The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms".

It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection.
In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause:

1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.

Uninstall BitDefender free trail antivirus program

Let's see what you have installed on this computer.

Open HijackThis 2.0.2
Press the button 'View Misc Tools Section'
Press the button 'open uninstall manager'
Press the button 'save list'
A notepad file will open.
Post the content here in your reply.
Close HijackThis.

Post a fresh Hijackthis log. The last one was run in the safe mode and does not show all the processes.

Hi shannon1716,

Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 are both obsolete, so I recommend you uninstall them both.

To get the latest versions, download, update and run (one at a time of course!)
Spybot 1.5 and Ad-Aware 2007 Free

Fix whatever they suggest.

CCleaner Tutorial

*******************************************

I see no malware in your computer, and Bitdefender trail antivirus was clean.

Select the following with HijackThis.
With all windows (including this one!) closed (close browser/explorer windows), please select "fix checked"

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but I suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE
(Description: System Tray icon for the Realtek AC97 Audio Sound Manager for AC97 onboard audio. Available via Start -> Settings-> Control Panel. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources. )

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] \"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe\" -osboot
(Description: RealPlayer scheduler. Completely unnecessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] \"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe\"
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
(Description: Apple's QuickTime Tray Icon which enables you to start QuickTime from the System Tray (from version 5 onward). Given the extremely simple functionality of this Tray icon, it is in our view an unreasonable resource hog - it has been measured to use as much as 1.5Mb of memory at times in earlier versions, and in version 7 it uses as much as 3.4Mb of memory on our test systems. Yet, on Windows PCs hardly anyone starts QuickTime manually, whether from the System Tray or otherwise - what usually happens is that the end-user opens a QuickTime movie file or email attachment and Windows then automatically opens QuickTime to enable the end-user to view the movie or video. There is therefore almost never a need for the end-user to start QuickTime manually from the System Tray. )

*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the Issues or Registry button. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don't know how to use it, you may cause irreparable damage to your system.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
• Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Autocomplete Forum History. Cookies box is checked so those will be deleted.
• Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
• Clean all entries in the "System" section except for Start Menu Shortcuts and Desktop Shortcuts.
• Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
• Clean all including cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
• Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
• Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
• Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Finally, reboot your computer, post a new Hijackthis log, and tell me how your computer is running.

My concern was that I cleaned my machine and rebooted and the items came right back. Every time I cleaned I had the same items and my comp was slow.
I finished all of what you suggested and then rebooted and then ran a new hijack log, which is below and I ran adaware and it found nothing, sot that's good!
I forgot to mention that my machine simply goes blank/completely shuts down and then reboots, once in a while, I think it's only when I'm watching video? But that may be a completely different issue.

Thanks for your help.

Hi shannon1716,

My concern was that I cleaned my machine and rebooted and the items came right back. Every time I cleaned I had the same items and my comp was slow.

Those cookies were in the temp file and I bet you did not delete the temp files.

Look at your VCOM SystemSuite 5 and see if you have the VirusScanner™ Pro program disabled.

You need only one antivirus program running, and you are using Windows OneCare Live package that includes antivirus and antispyware. Running two virus scanners will greatly slow your computer.

I forgot to mention that my machine simply goes blank/completely shuts down and then reboots, once in a while, I think it's only when I'm watching video? But that may be a completely different issue.

That does not sound like a malware problem.
How much RAM do you have on your computer?

To find out how much RAM is in your computer:
click on the Start button.
Select Control Panel.
Select System.
Choose the General tab.
The amount of RAM will be listed near the bottom of the window.

Yes I clean those files regularly using SystemSuite and ghostsurf. but neither program has any virus protection. Again: I have just the onecare, but I don't think it does a good job and sometimes does slow down my comp.
I have a gig or Ram.

Hi Shannon,

Here are some options for you.
Besides deleting cookies regualy using a program like CCleaner

You can set IE7 to block cookies http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/cookies.htm
or download a cookie blocker like CookieWall http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/cookie.htm

Again: I have just the onecare, but I don't think it does a good job and sometimes does slow down my comp

If you dont like onecare, then you can uninstall it an try a free antivirus.
Since onecare also includes a antispyware, you will need to also run free antispyware programs like AVG antispyware or Spybot.

I recommend you download the free

Avast or
AntiVir or
AVG antivirus

Products from all three vendors received the Virus Bulletin's VB100% award and certification for virus detection from ICSA Labs.

Never install more than one antivirus scanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give you problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously!

I have a gig or Ram.

You have lots of memory, so that cant be your problem.

Uninstall ComboFix, go to to Start > Run & type in ComboFix /u
Make sure there's a space between Combofix and /
Then hit enter.

This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.
