Hi there,

First off let me say that I am a computer novice so please bear this in mind when giving any advice.

I run Nortons anti-virus but somehow recently got the W32.Alcra.F virus.

I followed the advice from the Symantec site to remove W32.Alcra.F and the virus seems to have been removed however part of the removal process requires that I go to Start > Run and type cmd and also Start > Run and type regedit, both of these give me a this is not a valid Win32 application message.

I have also noticed that 'Ctrl Alt Del' will no longer bring up task manager and Start > Run and type taskmgr gives the message another program is currently using this file

I am totally stuck in the process of removing this virus. Whenever I run a full system scan, they will detect a file named "outlook.exe" as infected. Subsequently, repairing of this file failed, even attempts to delete it failed too. Totally lost.

I pasted my Hijack log below.

Some kind souls pls help me.

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today.
Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of its own (c:\BFU).
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Next to 'scriptfile to execute' you'll see a little icon like this: Posted Image
When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'
In the field, copy and paste this:http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu
Click OK.
Then click Execute to run the script.
Wait for the 'complete script execution' box to popup and press OK.
Press Exit to terminate the BFU program.

Then I would like to see a brand new Hijackthis log.
Thanks,
Charles

Hello again,
Although the specific file you mentioned has been removed, malware often brings "friends" along with it; so we will run another scan to make sure that if this is the case the are removed.
Please print off a copy of these instructions, and also save them to a Notepad file on your desktop, so they are easily accessible.
We are going to boot into Safe Mode later in the fix, and there is no internet access.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop.
Start the set-up program by double clicking the installer.
Follow the on screen instructions to install the program, making sure that "Launch AVG Anti-Spyware" is checked.
Click the Update tab then select Start update; a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Now press the Scanner icon, and click the Settings tab.
Click Recommended actions, then set it to Quarantine.
Close the program now, we will scan with it later on.

Scan again with HijackThis and put a checkmark next to each of the following entries (if present):

Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix checked button.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.
This is done by rebooting Windows and pressing F8 at boot/Windows startup, usually right after the beep.
Then select Safe Mode from the list.
Make sure you choose the option without Networking Support.

Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon on your Desktop.
Press the Scanner icon.
Then click on the Complete System Scan button.
If any infections are found, you will be asked for an action; select Apply all actions.
Now press the Reports icon at the top.
Choose Save report as and save the text file to your Desktop.
Post this log in your next reply.

Reboot into Normal Mode again.

In your next reply I would like to see the AVG report and a brand new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
Charles
