Ok... I am not 100% sure of what exactly I had. I have used almost every spyware/malware/virus scan I don't even now scans to check the computer. Including spysweeper, spybot, Superantispy, Avg antispyware. I also ran Vundo (which came up with nothing) and I combofix.

THe original problem was that I was receiving the balloons with the various security alerts like these...
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/...-99&tabid=2
I followed symantec's instructions but it did not do anything, and the files listed were not there.

When I ran spysweeper it found the ldpinch trojan and removed it.
I then installed spybot which basically went into this visuous cycle of needing to stop a registry edit but I am not exactly sure what.
I have been in safemode ever since and no connection to the pc.

Avg and superspysweper only found tracking cookies and one of them found a trojan.winfixer.

I then kept getting these prorgrams that kept reinstalling themselves. Which combofix seems to have removed.

I have not rebooted yet into normal mode and I have not reactivated spybot to see if it will continue to block whatever it was blocking. Which was extremely annoying and well obviously it should not need to do that much work.

So I think I have done everything on the list I did run virus scans with different programs and nothing was picked up.

So here is my hijack this log. I also have the combofix log I don't know if I should post that or not please let me know if I should.

Thank you for your time....

Now I just realized I did this in safe mode do I need to do it again in normal mode?

I hope this is allowed that I bump this back up. I think I am finally cleaned but I am still afraid to hook it up to the internet and I would really like to. If someone does not mind looking my log over that would be great!

Thank you for your help,

Christina

Hello Christina,

Now I just realized I did this in safe mode do I need to do it again in normal mode?

Yes, please. HijackThis can't see as much in safe mode as it can in normal mode.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for that. Let's tidy this up a bit and then see what's left :

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: idbtqsun - C:\WINDOWS\

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix checked".

Reboot your computer.

Let's get the latest update from Java and get rid of the older versions:

Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
Run a scan with one of your numerous scanners....lol...and post the report for me, along with a new HijackThis log. Are you having any problems at this point?

Thanks,
tea

Thank you I did everything you listed. Which would be a better scanner I have spysweeper, avg and superspyware (I don't plan to keep all 3 I will ultimately just use spysweeper).

And so far I have not had anymore problems. But I also have not been on the internet until now. I will post my logs later this evenign b/c last time it took and hour for the scan.

Thank you so much!

Christina

How about AVG AntiSpyware for this one? We may do SpySweeper later.

Post the logs when you're ready. Glad you aren't having any problems.

Regards,
tea

Hi,

Those cookies are typical, and you'll pick them up every time you're online. Even I can't avoid cookies. ;)

Well, that looked good from AVG AS. Your HijackThis log looks good. I think we can call this done.

Please delete ComboFix and its accompanying folder C:\Qoobox. Empty your Recycle bin and reboot your computer.

You have plenty of protection in place, so I'll leave you with some good reading, rather than my usual speech.

Take care!
