My son's Dell notebook with an internal wireless card is not seeing our wireless network (or any other of the usual neighbouring signals) .
I checked and no wireless card is shown on the Device Manager. The background is that my son (14yr) had just reformatted the machine and reloaded XP Media edition and wanted me to help him get back on the net. Is this a hardware issue, or was the install of XP Media not done correctly? Our other three computers are all working on the network - so router etc is fine.
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

If he reloaded XP, did he reinstall the drivers afterwards? If not, then it's likely that the driver for the wireless card isn't working. Check Device Manager (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter) and look for any red x's or yellow !'s

Another issue is that the wireless card may have come loose. Let us know if the wireless card doesn't show up in Device Manager (not showing is different from the devices having red x's or yellow !'s) and someone can help direct you on how to reseat it.
