I am trying to play a MPEG clip on my windows XP professional. I upgraded, yesterday to Win Media Player 11 from 10 (thinking that would help with my probelm)

The video is choppy and does not play. IT says im missing a codec. It redirects me to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...00C04F2E73C5%7d

It says codec not found, but you shoudl search the web for the codec.

The message is:

Windows Media Player cannot identify the name of the missing codec. However, its globally unique identifier (GUID) is 1B81BE0A-A0C7-11D3-B984-00C04F2E73C5.

To search for this codec, see WMPlugins.com.

I go to mppluging and it says:

The codec you are missing is not available for download from this site. You might be able to find it on another site by searching the Web for "{1B81BE0A-A0C7-11D3-B984-00C04F2E73C5}" (this is the WaveFormat or FourCC identifier of the codec).

If anyone can help me find this codec to downlaod, or tell me where I can go I would really be grateful. Any help is appreciated!

Gail

So sorry

I just need a clarification to the reply because im confused....

Does that mean you went to the site and the site removed the codec, or link (link being mark?)

Does this mean I cant get the codec?

Thank you very much for your understanding.

I'm sorry, I should have explained. After I posted the link I did some searching and some people, one from here that I trust, said some of the codecs in that pack were pirated. I did not wish you to go there and have problems with a bad download. I would recommend another but I'm not all that knowledgeable with WMP codecs. I'm sure someone will be along to advise on the proper one

Hiya,

Did you up grade to media player 11 because 10 wouldn't play the video ?

Have you tried any other players, ie, Real Player.

Regards,

Tony.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

as far as I know, this is the safest codec for directshow

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Player_Classic

download MPC then install ffdshow

these are open source projects, not pirated

search for "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack" on google. Worked for me when most of my codecs decided to stop working. Also try using VLC Media Player, it works when windows media player doesnt.
