Hey all,

Over the past two weeks I have been getting Symantec popping up saying it deleted "text[1].dat." It usually comes up in 2 instances, 4 times, and will repeat every few hours. This morning I tried to fix it, and ran Symantec’s full system scan. I ran it once normally, and once in safe mode. Then I installed Adaware, and ran it. The first scan picked up 171 files, then after restarting the computer, it picked up only 11. Next, I ran Spybot. Despite slowing the computer down tremendously, it picked up a couple of things, including Win32.small.azl, SmithFraud, and Virtumonde. Then, after completeing the scan, I started getting a barrage of popups. Next I ran BitDefender, then McAfee Stinger, made sure my firewall was on, and then updated Window’s security. I’m still getting these popups, and its giving me trouble even getting onto the internet for more then a few minutes. Here’s my hijackthis log. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I also just ran ComboFix, and Symantec's Fix Vundo thing. I'm still getting popups, and it won't let me reenable Symantec Auto-Protect. Here's the new HiJackThis log.

Hello DualJ

I will be helping you with your problems.

If you could navigate to Start>My computer\C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe and then right click on it and select rename. Rename it to Demon.exe. Next run Demon.exe and choose "do a system scan and save a logfile". Please post the resultant log in a reply to this thread and i will take a look for you.

Thanks DC

Hello again DualJ

1. Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Once the scan has completed look for the following item/s and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it (if present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8577116C-6495-421D-A65A-AEE62ECB835A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeba.dll (file missing)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C92B957B-4767-4E53-A63C-1E547C35F0C6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wvuvwxw.dll (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {DE9C389F-3316-41A7-809B-AA305ED9D922} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvuvwxw - wvuvwxw.dll (file missing)

These next entries are optional, but may help to speed your computer up as these services are not needed to be run at startup:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"

2. Next close all open windows apart from hjt and click fix checked and then exit the program.

3. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
Thanks DC

Hello DualJ

1. Please navigate to:

Start>Run and then copy/paste in the following line:

"C:\Windows\unvise32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\EXPLOR~1\WEBMAI~1\uninstal.log"

Follow all the prompts.

2. Next please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ktpayvdq.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tvnrfolm.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\simcard1.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ynysjmja.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\sxqggobn.dll
    C:\Program Files\3269.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvros.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxwusp.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drvbac.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ps1.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rc.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cookie1.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\conf.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\btasv.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Keygen.exe

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Close OTMoveIt
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

3. Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner
Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
Follow the Instruction here for installation.
Accept the License Agreement.
Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Let me know how these three steps go and post in a reply to this thread the OTMoveIt report and the F-secure scan report.

When I tried to run C:\Windows\unvise32.exe C:\PROGRA~1\EXPLOR~1\WEBMAI~1\uninstal.log, I got the error saying C:\PROGRA~1\EXPLOR~1\WEBMAI~1\uninstal.log was not a valid uninstallation file.

The other things worked fine.

Here's the OTMoveIt report followed by the F-secure scan report.

Hi DualJ

As seen as the uninstaller did not work lets try this.

Download this file to your desktop. [attachment=2479:Fix.reg]
Then double click on the fix.reg file on your desktopPosted Imageand agree to merge the imformation into the registry, then restart your pc.

Please download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.
Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.
When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog and tell me how your pc is running now.

Cheers DC

Since I started doing what you said, there has definitely been an increase in the speed of the computer, also the popups have left completely. The only thing, which I'm not sure if its related, is that my Symantec won't run. Auto-Protect is automatically disabled, and when I enable it, it disables itself a few seconds later. But, other then that, everythign is working wonderfully.

Thanks!

Hi DualJ

Glad to hear that your PC is behaving itself a bit more now.

Try this to fix your Symantec woes.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add or remove programs. Find the Symantec entry and click on modify/remove. This should bring up three entries. Select repair and then follow the on screen prompts. A reboot may be neccesary.

Just a bit of tidying up to do now.

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start, open My Computer, select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.

Using Windows Explorer, (Windows key + E), please locate and delete the following file, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\unvise32.exe

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)6 Update 3...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Post a fresh Hijackthis log and let me know how things are running now.

Regards

DC

Hey DC, I did everything you said, and it works fine. I'm still having the problem with Symantec, even after repairing it. Other then that, everything is working great. No more pop-ups, no more getting kicked off the internet randomly.

Thank for all the help!

Hi DualJ

Glad to hear things are running better now.

Your log is clean.

You may need to uninstall and reinstall your Symantec programs to see if that helps.

Let me just check a fresh Dss log as that might indicate what the problem may be.

If you no longer have this program please refer to post#6 for instructions and the download link for Dss.

Paste the resultant log in a reply to this thread.

Regards DC
