Hi and welcome,

sorry for delay.
If you still need assistance please post a fresh hijackthis log.

Your Hijackthis log says you are in normal mode.
What is telling you that you are stuck in safe?

Thanks
I'll have an order of massive trojan attack please with a side order of rootkit and virus dip.
Pre-course order of fresh spyware salad please with a side order of polymorphic dressing.
And to drink...a nice tall glass of adware!

For dessert; can I have a bowl of the freshest worms you have please?.

Never Give Up!

Uhh... I am in safe mode because the background is different, the properties are all different, and it looks nothing like the normal XP windows start up screen. All the windows are grey.

Hi,

Can you post a new Hijackthis log please?

Also a log from this app:

Download this tool to your desktop:
http://www.uploads.ejvindh.net/rootchk.exe
Run the program. After a short time a logfile will turn up. Copy the contents of the log into the thread.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks

You are in normal mode. Just the malware is messing with settings.
First thing that gotta go is your Haxdoor rootkit. Then we can look for and remove the rest of the junk and fix whatever it broke.

Note on Haxdoor.
Most of this family of trojans are password stealers aimed at stealing confidential banking info.
No using this computer for financial activities till you get cleaned up.
If you have been... best to contact your bank & CC companies to check your accounts.
Also see about getting to a clean computer to change sensitive passwords.

---------------------

Download haxfix.exe (http://users.telenet.be/marcvn/tools/haxfix.exe).
Save it to your desktop.
Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
Checkmark "Create a desktop icon".
Click "Next".
When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed.
Click "Finish".
A red "dos window" (dos box) will open.

Close all other open windows since this step requires a reboot
Select option 2. Run auto fix by typing 2 and then pressing Enter

If an infection is found, you'll get a message to close all other open windows.

Close all open windows except the red dos window from haxfix and then press Enter
The computer will reboot
After reboot a logfile will open > (c:\haxfix.txt)
Post the contents of that logfile along with a new HijackThis log.

Thanks

There will be more work to do so don't run away yet.

If you are happy with the service I provided, please consider making a donation to help me continue the fight against Malware Posted Image

Hi,

Looking better. let's go get the rest now.

For now please uninstall Spybot S & D. TeaTimer is going to interfere with the fixes.
You can re-install it when we are done.
Reboot after uninstalling Spybot.

Start Hijackthis
Run system scan and check:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: My Web Search Bar BHO - {8EAB99C1-F9EC-4b64-A4BA-D9BCAE8779C2} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearchWB\bar\1.bin\W6BAR.DLL (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: WeatherBug Browser Bar - powered by MyWebSearch - {8EAB99C9-F9EC-4b64-A4BA-D9BCAE8779C2} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearchWB\bar\1.bin\W6BAR.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\PROGRA~1\AWS\WEATHE~1\Weather.exe 1
O16 - DPF: {9522B3FB-7A2B-4646-8AF6-36E7F593073C} - http://a19.g.akamai.net/7/19/7125/4058/ftp...oke/Coupons.cab

Close all open windows except Hijackthis and click "fix checked"
Ok prompt & exit Hijackthis.

Reboot.

Locate and delete if found the following folders if present:

C:\Program Files\MyWebSearchWB
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
C:\Program Files\AWS

Empty same from recycle bin.

--------------------------------

Download Deckard's System Scanner to your Desktop.:

http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/Deckard/dss.exe
http://deckard.geekstogo.com/dss.exe

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt here.
A folder, C:\Deckard\System Scanner, will also open. In it will be another text file, Extra.txt.
Please attach Extra.txt to your post.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

To attach a file to a new post,
Paste the below path into the white text box beside the "browse" button at bottom of your post, then click the green "upload" button.

C:\Deckard\System Scanner\Extra.txt

What DSS will do:
--create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
--clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
--check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
--System Scanner automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Let me know too how the computer is running.

If you are happy with the service I provided, please consider making a donation to help me continue the fight against Malware Posted Image

Hi,

Your desktop still look wierd?
Can you change the background picture yet?

Right click desktop> properties> desktop tab.
Options accessable or still greyed out.

Open Hijackthis
Click "config"
Click "misc tools"
click "open uninstall manager"
Locate WeatherBug Browser Bar
Hilight it and click "remopve entry"
OK the prompt.

What is in these folders?:

Anything that look recognizable?

Why have you tried to disable so many items with Hijackthis?
Alot of what you were trying to disable is legit stuff.

---------------------------------

Download Dr.Webs CureIt to your desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

Boot to SAFE mode with no internet.

Double-click the drweb-cureit.exe file and allow it to run the express scan.

This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.

Once the short scan has finished, select the "full system scan"

Click the green arrow > to the right and the scan will begin.

At the first infection, select 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.

When the scan has finished, click the "Select all" toggle button (if available) next to the files found

Then click the green cup icon right below and select Move incurable

This will move any infected files to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder that can't be cured (in case if we need samples).

Then, from the main Dr.Web CureIt menu (top left), click File and choose save report list
Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv

Close Dr.Web Cureit and Restart your computer to completely remove any stubborn files in reboot.

Post back with the DrWeb.csv report please.

Thanks

Here you go, sir.

Process.exe;C:\WINDOWS\system32;Tool.Prockill;Incurable.Moved.;

That is the file that couldnt be removed. I cant attach the file because it says I have a minimun of 24.25k of space. Do you need another hijackthis report ?

I deleted the folders you asked about earlier. Not sure where they came from.

I couldnt delete "weatherbugmysearch" through the add/remove prompt that hijackthis was giving me. I had to manually delete using hijackthis. It kept giving me an error like C: progra~..... does not exist.

It seems it may be fixed.... Not sure about that last file however.....

Hi,

Can you upload the DrWeb.csv to this page please:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-mal....php?channel=19

Include the URL of this thread in the space provided so I know who's log it is and remember what it is about.

I deleted the folders you asked about earlier. Not sure where they came from.

Why delete them? They may very well have been legit.
Don't delete stuff unless I tell you to please. (unless you know for sure it is junk)

yes. Please post a fresh hijackthis log.

Your desktop still look wierd?
Can you change the background picture yet?

Right click desktop> properties> desktop tab.
Options accessable or still greyed out.

How is the computer running?

Thanks

Hello sir,

I posted the Dr. Web report into the website given.

I deleted the folders because they were all created on Oct 4, 2007. There is absolutely nothing in them. They were each 8 kb. It seemed to me they were just folders in there from something that wasnt suppose to be in there.

I think everything is fine now except that one item that showed up in the report.

You are the man. I probably need to send you some money for all your help.

Hi,

Thanks for the log. I thought there was going to be more to it but I see that you did post the whole thing.

Those folders were prolly leftovers from some program setup.
You install anything on the 4th? (that you can remember?)

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.

Save it to the desktop.
Double click it and click "Cleanup"
Follow the prompts.
It may ask you to reboot. Do so if it does.

This will remove the tools we used plus any files/folders these tools created. (which will also delete the file DrWeb flaggged)
And it will delete itself.

You didn't answer me about the desktop. It work normal now?

You did get my note about changing passwords and such to financial sites? Haxdoor is a password stealer and can steal banking/Credit card info if it was on the machine.

You are the man. I probably need to send you some money for all your help.

I'm a She.
And donations are strictly voluntary. My help is totally free but if you want to... Thanks

Haha. Sorry I did not realize your gender. My apologies.

The deskstop is running fine. I was able to change back to my original desktop and everything is back to normal it seems.
I dont rememeber installing anything on Oct 4th of any importance. It obviously wasnt anything used by windows.

I will reset my passwords.
I ran OTMoveit and did exactly as you asked. I rebooted the computer. Everything is fine.

Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

PS. You are the woman. ( Trying to redeem myself)
