Hi, this weekend I suffered the end of a week of nightmarish computer behavior, with persistent hanging and a screen that looked like it had two dozen fifty pound pigeons perched on the antennae. It was this that led me here to bleepingcomputer and here that wonderful friends offered thier kind and informed assistance. All that was offered me gave some form of advancement and did, too, move in inevitably in the right direction. But it was a tiny bit of almost unseen information on another complaint sent into Microsoft that gave me the light bulb, which answered and fixed my computer. To those of you with hanging computers, especially laptops (like mine), or an lcd that seems corroding and about to disintegrate into oblivion, simply follow this succinct and sage instruction: click start...go to 'run' and type: cmd Then, when in, type: CHKDSK C: /R Then, agree to restart and type: EXIT. This will allow XP to attempt to repair the blok or blocks, as was the case with my own computer, and when it runs its slow and inevitable course, hopefully, you'll have the same results as I did: a clean running efficient laptop...Thanks so much to all of you who offered me your kind advice. I only hope I have the opportunity and wisdom to return your kindness. Jane
