Hi, I use avast antivirus and it has been telling me that I have a Win32:Agent-KDC trojan in a DefLib.sys file in my system 32 folder. I am running windows xp. I have tried removing it through the antivirus and it always seems to come back. I have run Ad-Aware and it doesn't come up in there. I have the file in quarantine in my avast antivirus for now, so my computer is running pretty normally, but am worried it will do more damage. After some googling it seems like I might have a rootkit problem so I would really like some help. The Adware problem just happened now, and I've quarantined that problem as well. I also turned off my system restore and ran windows in safe mode and tried to remove the file and using ad-aware and avast, but it still came back when i rebooted. I have posted my hijack this log below. Thanks for the help!

Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop
Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the contents of the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the response. I did the combofix scan and have posted the log below, but a couple of weird things happened during the scan and I don't know if they affected it. A windows box popped up once during the scan and once after the reboot saying that set.cdexe had an error and closed and if I wanted to send a error report to microsoft. I didn't send the error report. Also after the reboot I didn't start any programs, but some programs that automatically start at reboot opened up like MSN messenger and microsoft groove. I didn't log on to any of them. Also my windows firewall blocked microsoft groove from connecting to the internet. I'm not sure if any of that affected the scan or not. If I need to rescan let me now...thanks again.

Hi,

here is my new hijack this log. Also I just wanted to let you know that I have the folders with the virus in my Avast antivirus chest if that makes any difference.

The file you refered to DefLib.sys does not show to be in your System32 folder any longer. If it is in a quarantine folder in Avast!
then it can do no harm there.

We have found and cleaned the data stream the infection was using.

You also indicated in your first post that you had turned off System Restore. If it is still off, please turn it back on.

Are you still getting the warning from Avast!?

Hi,

No I haven't got an avast warning for the past while and I actually have 2 Deflib.sys files in the quarantine and 1 setup.exe that was infected with the Adware-gen. In the past when I had them in quarantine, once I deleted them, after a couple of hours I would get the warning from Avast! But so far no warnings. Should I go ahead and delete them from my quarantine. Also I will turn the system restore back on. Thanks for your help.

1. Run an online virus scan called Kaspersky from HERE.1. Click on "Kaspersky Online Scanner"
2. A new smaller window will pop up. Press on "Accept". After reading the contents.
3. Now Kaspersky will update the anti-virus database. Let it run.
4. Click on "Next"->>"Scan Settings", and make sure the database is set to "extended". And check both the scan options. Then click OK.
5. Then click on "My Computer". And the scan will start.
6. When the scan is complete Select Save error report as
Then in the file name just type in kaspersky
Under save as type select text .txt
Save it to your Desktop
Copy and post the results of the Kaspersky Online scan

==========

Note: The Kaspersky online scanner is not yet fully compatible with IE7. You may get returned to a window without the Accept/Decline buttons after allowing the ActiveX control. The buttons are there - you just can't see them! Click on the zoom button (bottom, right of the window) and change it from 100% to 75%. You should now see the buttons. Reset to 100% once the license has been accepted.

No problem. The one file is in System Restore folder which we will deal with in closing.

There are no other signs of infection.

Go ahead and delete the file files you have in quaratine.

Then reply tomorrow with an update on how everything is running.
