Hello and thank you in advance for your help. For the last couple of weeks, every time I run AdAware it crashes about half way into the scan. A screen will then pop up and prompt me to send an error report. I don't receive any feedback on how to fix the issue. Often times I have problems browsing the internet, usually when I type a link I will get a "timed out" error message. At the current time I am browsing without difficulty, but in the case of last night it wasn't working and I couldn't get on here to post about the problems I was having. I notice when I begin the scan with AdAware, there are over 160 problems, however I can't fix them since the scan doesn't finish. I'm thinking that my problems are related to some sort of adware or malware, but then again, I'm not that computer savvy so I couldn't say for sure. Also, maybe it's worth mentioning that just a couple of months ago, I was having frequent trouble with blue screens, but after removing several programs and restoring, etc. I haven't had a blue screen in awhile. Just so you know that I have been having ongoing problems, it's always something with this computer!

Here is my system information (If I need to include anything else please let me know)

Hi runner645,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Sorry for the delay, this forum is overwhelmed with requests for help right now.

I don't see any definite signs of malware in your log.

I do see some odd entries, for example three instances of a HP printer file running at the same time. Please take a look at this webpage and decide whether you want to leave the process running or disable it.

If you do want to disable it, I'm afraid I can't give you instructions, because I am not very familiar with all the HP software. I suggest you consult your manual or check the HP online help pages.

If you find that you want or need to have the HPBOID.EXE and HPBPRO.EXE drivers running, then I suggest you uninstall your HP printer and all its software, then download the latest versions and reinstall. Again. HP's own information would be your best source for help with this.

Now, the problem you presented: It's likely that some process is interfering with Ad-Aware's scanner.

Try running Ad-Aware in Safe Mode. To boot into Safe mode, do this:

1. Restart your computer.
2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

Let me know if that works. If it does, we will know that one of your running programs was interfering with Ad-Aware.

Also, if Ad-Aware finds anything other than cookies, please make a note of it (exact name of the malware and the file names) and let me know.

Keep me informed --

Dave
