Hi everyone,
if l put my computer into standby mode:
START>SHUTDOWN>STAND BY
and then return and press any key to restart, l get the message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shotdown.
If the problem persists please contact the vendor.

Anyone have any ideas??
Many thanks geoff

Standby mode is notoriously buggy and i never use it on my machines. Certain apps hardware just do not know how to react properly with it

Hi Grinler,
so your advice is don't use it??
I thought it may be easier when using broadband just to leave the connection open and put the computer to stand by??
Maybr not eh?

Many thanks
Geoff

I never use it. I just leave the computer on in normal mode.

Stand by is really buggy the way I deal with it is the power schemes applet
Standby never
shutdown monitor 30 minutes
shutdown hard drives 1 hour
Give the scheme a name and save it I call mine power saver
This will save power and wear and tear on your drives

Hate it when PC goes to Standbye..........Step daughters Progs never recover etc.........BUT TURN OFF YOUR MONITOR!!!!

Can't quite remember the actual calculation but a Standard 17" Monitor consumes enough power to Photocopy a Ream (500 Pages) of Paper a Month or something like that. Dont matter really, costs you money, increases world pollution, and is a high fire risk, unless you have some smart super sytem.

BUT join Folding and let your system do some good as we finally cook this sacred green planet of ours
