When returning computer to operation after being in standby mode, some programs will not respond including shut down feature. Cookies, temporary files and history have all been deleted. Why will some programs respond and others not? How do I fix it? Thanks in advance!! BigEarl

Look in the Event Viewer, located in the Administrative Tools, for error messages. Please post the last four (4) error messages here. when you locate the error message double click on the error and Copy&Paste the details. This will give us a better picture as to what is going on.

Instead of using standby, try just shutting it off and see if the problem happens when you turn it back on. That might help narrow things down
