i recently had taken care of a malware problem in another forum. When I went to uninstall combo fix, the computer restarted and windows said it had to restart to protect folder and files... the it went to a black screen where i could choose to start windows normally, safe mode or last known config, etc.. none of these options seem to work, i get to the splash screen and then the screen just goes black and nothing happens. I don't have the disk either! I don't know what to do now.

You can try running fixmbr and fixboot from the Recovery Console ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654 )
Other solutions also point to assorted fixes relating to the hard drive - so a scan of the drive using the manufacturer's (of the hard drive) diagnostics may reveal something.

Otherwise, a repair install of Windows may be your best option (it'll leave your data and programs intact): http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

It depends on the manufacturer of the computer. Go to their website and see if (in the Support section) they've got restore/recovery CD's. It's the cheapest way to get a copy of XP - otherwise you're talking a lot of money!
