Hi....im using windows vista in a core duo 1.83GHz, 1GB ram Acer Aspire 5584. My problem is when i run programs like Adobe After Effect 7.0, Canopus 3 pro and other editing or visual graphic programs and play games like Age Of Mythology(titans) and especially Command & Conquer Tiberium Wars, My laptop crashes often. Is it due to the memory problem? Is vista consume too much memory?
Im planning to install xp and run my pc in dual os. Is there any complication or will it solve my problem? As the last option...do i have to abandon my vista and just install xp? Pls give suggestions. As a video editor...i would like to make my laptop as a second workstation for my private projects but these problem have haunted me for almost a year now. Please Help. Thanks.

Are all of these programs Vista compatible? Have you checked their websites for updates?

What does the crash information tell you? Is it a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) crash? Please describe the crash in more detail.

Finally, the system sounds a bit underpowered to do all that you're asking it to do. At a minimum I'd add more RAM - but there's just so much that you can do with a laptop.

the programs are certified as vista compatible..normally the programs just quits or the pc hangs. sometimes it'll even restart. my laptop is just less than a year old. The most annoying thing is some of my friends are using single core or less than 1.66GHz dual core with 512 ram which runson xp that work a lot faster and more stability. Do u think its ok if i uninstall my vista and install xp?

If you uninstall Vista and install XP it will likely void your warranty. Then, if you install XP, you'll have to locate ALL the drivers for your system. That being said, it looks as if Acer has the XP drivers here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5580.html
