In a nutshell, we have two PC's. One PC (With Windows XP) in the living room, connected to the Internet with Virgin Media cable broadband (10meg+) using the Webstar Modem. The other in the dining room, a new one, with Vista Basic, which is not connected (both downstairs).

I am wanting to connect the Vista PC to the other PC that is connected to the Internet. Currently unsure whether it should be wireless (because of a thick wall. Distance is around 20ft between PC's). Or cabled, but then got the problem of feeding the wires somewhere!

Would be eternally grateful for any advice on what I require to go about this and the exact equipment needed for either wireless or cabled. If you require any other information please ask and I shall gladly supply it.

Many thanks!

Hiya,

My basic instinct with this issue is that unless you want a very long ethernet cable running from your Xp Computer to your Vista Computer, I would definitely go wireless.

Certainley with Virgin Media Cable broadband you should have no connectivity problems.

The equipment that you will need consist of :-

A Wireless Router to replace your Webstar modem, A NIC PCI Card ( but I suspect the Xp will already have one installed). A fast ethernet cable and a wireless adapter or wireless PCI card for the Vista. ( Making sure that the adapter or card are Vista compatable).

Regards,

Tony.
