That is a fact, quote from the avg free edition webpage. Important notice

* * Some older operating systems such as Microsoft Windows ME, Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft Windows 98 will only be supported until August 2008 as a minimum.

Select AVG free edition from the drop down list, The asterisk note is at the very bottom of this page.
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently

**WARNING** Links I provide might cause brain damage

I`m afraid that is a question I cannot answer, only Avast knows for how long they will provide their service for 98se. It looks like as soon as Microsoft stopped supporting 98se/ME, the providers of products/software are dropping by the wayside, which is in my opinion sad, I personally like, and have had minimal problems with my three 98se machines. I believe some would call it progress, but it`s a shame that such a good OS is sooner or later to be without some compatible software.
