Hi,

Have you been using/updating Spybot S&D lately/previously? Because that explains why AVG displays this "alert", because Spybot S&D does indeed modify your hostsfile - it ads extra domains to your hostsfile to block these domains.

I can't see anything suspicious in your log here, but Your version of Java is outdated and needs to be updated to take advantage of fixes that have eliminated security vulnerabilities.
Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 2.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 2".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    - Examples of older versions in Add or Remove Programs:
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Hi,

AVG doesn't display it as malware. It says that your hosts file has been changed, just a warning in case you're not aware of it.
You may want to read this thread as well: http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-...ed-up-host.html
You can just ignore it from the AVG scan - really don't worry about it.

Already tried this latest version? Make sure you disable your teatimer when you update, because your teatimer can be the problem here and preventing a proper install since it may lock some registry keys related with Sun Java

I had the probs with sun java long before i ever installed spybot. I do understand the older java is not the best option but its the one i stuck with. I have run housecall, spybot, ad aware, trojan remover and avg all come back clean with the exception of the one file showing as changed in avg. If its just a warning i can deal with it, i just want to make sure i am clean before i just let it go. Find enclosed a new log at was taken after all the programs where run again and i removed some files i really didn't need. Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

Why did you post a new HijackThislog? Because there was nothing suspicious in it previously (otherwise I would have said) and there's still nothing suspicious in it.

I have run housecall, spybot, ad aware, trojan remover and avg all come back clean with the exception of the one file showing as changed in avg

As I already said, it says "changed" here. This is no malware alert - only a notification that it has been changed.
You will get these "changed" alerts in the future as well after you perform a Windows update etc...

To disable these notifications, read here: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php...6,backpage=,sv=
