I assume that the persistent file CHECK_LSA7.TXT is associated with the occassional opening of a new browser window with an advertisement. I have tried everything I know to delete this file. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
dnsw

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum dnsw
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

* Double click on SDFix on your desktop, and install the fix to C:\

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder, then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the script.
* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply.

Note:
If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version and download it again from below.
Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on Combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Richie,

I greatly appreciate your help in solving my problem. I followed your clear, detailed instructions: first updating my Java

Runtime Environment, then downloading and running SD fix. No difficulties were encountered in these steps. Unfortunately

the "undeletable" file "Check_LSA7.txt" remains. Apparently it is still in active use because the file date changes with each

reboot and the size increases with time after a reboot. In addition, about an hour after a reboot, something tried to use IE to

connect to a web site even though IE was not running (Firefox was). I guess some additional measures will be necessary to

delete the Check_LSA7.txt file and to stop the attempts to connect to internet sites. I am copying the results of the SDFix

run, the Catchme.log that was run afterwards, and finally the HijackThis log was run later.

Once again, I want to express my appreciation for your help., dnsw

The current formatting of your log makes it difficult to read/evaluate.
Open 'Notepad',click on 'Format' at the top, then uncheck 'Word Wrap' if it's checked.

Could you follow the Combofix instructions please.

Richie,

Sorry about the wordwrap formatting. Maybe this will be easier for your to read. The system is still trying to connect
periodically to internet sites.

I greatly appreciate your help in solving my problem. I followed your clear, detailed instructions: first updating my Java
Runtime Environment, then downloading and running SD fix. No difficulties were encountered in these steps.
Unfortunately the "undeletable" file "Check_LSA7.txt" remains. Apparently it is still in active use because the file date
changes with each reboot and the size increases with time after a reboot. In addition, about an hour after a reboot,
something tried to use IE to connect to a web site even though IE was not running (Firefox was). I guess some additional
measures will be necessary to delete the Check_LSA7.txt file and to stop the attempts to connect to internet sites. I am
copying the results of the SDFix run, the Catchme.log that was run afterwards, and finally the HijackThis log was run later.

Once again, I want to express my appreciation for your help., dnsw

Go to C:\My Downloads, right click on a blank area and select 'New',then select 'Folder'.
Right click on that new folder and select 'Rename',rename the folder to HJT
Now place Hijackthis.exe into the HJT folder and run it from there from now on.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix re-opens,click the "Scan for Vundo" button.
Once it's done scanning, click the "Remove Vundo" button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click "YES".
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed,it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click "OK".
Post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt into your next reply.

Note:
It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case,VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Now go to:
C:\My Downloads\HJT\HiJackThis.exe
Right click on Hijackthis.exe and select 'Rename', rename it to abc.bat
Double click on abc.bat(which is still Hijackthis.exe),post that log into your next reply please.

Thank you for the prompt response Richie. I am embarassed to say that I had failed to run ComboFix. I realized this just
after I had posted my previous message. I immediately ran ComboFix. I am please to report that Check_LSA7.txt was
deleted by ComboFix. As I was about to report this success I found your newest reply asking that I run VundoFix, ComboFix
and then rename HijackThis.exe to abc.exe and run it. Since I had just run ComboFix, I ran VundoFix (nothing found) and
abc.bat (AKA HijackThis.exe). I am posting the logs below for your examination and further recommendations.
I really appreciate your help. dnsw

Followed the instructions of your last message. I didn't find the O2 Winlogon Notify: gomliff... file so I couldn't check it in
the Hijackthis screen. Also the file C:\Windows\Li4u was not found (either in Explorer or by a search). Finally near completion
of the SUPERAntiSpyware Scan my McAfee Antivirus showed a window that it had found and deleted a trojan (A0080430.exe).
The system seems to run OK, though I have only had time to use it while completing your instructions. Here are the logs.

Richie, I have completed the last set of instructions without difficulty. The computer is running fine. I want to compliment you on your careful, concise directions. Your guidance saved me much time that would have been lost if I had had to reinstall everything. Thank you very much for your help. I will also acknowledge you kind assistance with a donation. dnsw
