My computer unexpectedly reboots at times. It might happen 2 times an hour or it might not happen but once per day. It does not seem associated with any one program.

I have done a hijackthis, spybot and am using AVG virus software. I have scanned in regular and safe mode.

My system error log says:

The Retrospect WD Service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the path specified. The event ID is 7000.

I have searched the internet and this error seems to point to an infection but I can't find it.

Hi,

Check and fix next entries in HijackThis (just some unnecessary+orphaned entries, not malware related - nothing suspicious here anyway)

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)

It does not seem associated with any one program.

Actually it is though..
The problem is with the Retrospect WD Service, related with dantz.com: http://www.dantz.com/
As I see from your log, the related file is indeed missing:
O23 - Service: Retrospect WD Service (RetroWDSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Dantz\RETROS~1\wdsvc.exe (file missing)

I actually don't know if you still have this program installed though - if you do and still want to use it, I suggest you uninstall and reinstall it again to fix your issue.
In case you don't have it installed anymore, then do next to get rid of that orphaned service..

Go to start > run and copy and paste: sc delete RetroWDSvc

Hit enter.

Let me know if that solved your problem.
By the way, next time if you are having a problem with your computer and it's not because of malware, please post you issue in the appropriate part of this forum, because the HijackThislog forum is only for people who are dealing with adware, viruses, spyware etc.. and we want to prevent that everyone with a computer problem (non malware related) is posting their log here.

I have tried this and I will let you know if I have further problems. I apologize that this turned out not be malware related. I was just going by the infromation I gathered through google searches. If the problem continues I will post in a more appropriate area next time.

Thanks for your help.
