My boss has been experiencing crazy popups for a little over 2 weeks on his laptop and has requested I get him some help with this. He only had pccillan on his laptop before so I went through and installed AVG. After running a scan under safe mode and regular mode we were able to remove over 14 viruses and trojans (CRAZY!!!!!!!!!).

After that I installed Spyware blaster, Spybot Search & Destroy and AdAware and updated all 3. After running them in both safe and regular mode we cleaned out everything they found and ran again (a couple of different times just to make sure). Now AVG, Spybot AND Adaware are all three finding nothing, but he is still getting a reoccurring popup (not as many or as often as previously but still getting them). I switched him over to FireFox (from IE7) and set it as his default yet he still gets popups (even without EITHER browser open). Somebody suggested turning off the phishing detection in IE7 which we tried and now instead of getting multiple popups it will TRY to do a popup in IE7 but hangs on the window asking you if Microsoft can check to see if it is a legit site. If we leave that window open and do nothing then we no longer get popups. If we either confirm or deny microsoft to check the site then the popup will continue. A small IE7 window pops up with the title "Internet Speed Monitor". If we check the properties for that window it shows a link going out to clicksor.net.

Since everything else is showing clean and he continues to get popups we thought a hijackThis log analysis might be our last hope. Thanks a million for your assistance:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum brockb :blink:
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Apologies for the delay :thumbsup:

Please move HijackThis.exe to a permanent folder on the hard drive such as C:\HJT
Create a new folder and place your HijackThis.exe inside that folder so that the backups of log changes it creates are saved in the same folder and can be used to reverse the line entry deletion if found to be necessary.
If HijackThis is used from a temp folder it is in danger of being accidentally deleted by Disk Cleanup or similar tools.

How to create a new folder named HJT
1. Click Start/My Computer,in the 'My Computer' window,open the window in which you want to create the new folder,click on Local Disk C:
2. From the 'File' menu choose 'New'.
3. From the 'New' menu choose 'Folder'.
4. Type the folder name: HJT
5. Then press Enter.

If you need help with the above,follow the info in the link below:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java,and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

* Double click on SDFix on your desktop,and install the fix to C:\

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder,then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the script.
* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version and download it again from below.
Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.
