My computer was badly infected with Spyware a few months back, so I got on this website and was helped by a HJT-team member. After completing the necessary steps as requested the spyware was gone, however a new problem developed...I noticed that whenever I had firefox open my computer would stall for about 5-10 seconds every 30 seconds. it would just completely freeze then resume normally again. sometimes delays would be up to 1-2 minute, which is just ridiculous. Aside from the stalls firefox would run pretty fast in terms of browsing speed. However that is no longer the case. Also the overall speed and performance of Internet Explorer was considerably low, I dont notice any pop ups or anything like that, so I dont think I have spyware - but again Im not sure. Please take a look at my HJT Log:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum FAZAL
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

* Double click on SDFix on your desktop, and install the fix to C:\

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder, then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the script.
* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply.

Download DelDomains.zip and extract/unzip it to your desktop:
Now right click on Deldomains.inf then click on 'Install'.
After right clicking on Deldomains.inf 'Install' it will have appeared nothing happened, this is normal.

Note:
If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version and download it again from below.
Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on Combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

I followed the instructions for ComboFix, however it was acting alittle strange. The programs was taking a very long time to load and execute, finally I received a message saying 'c:\documents and settings\administrator.fazal\ntuser.dat' to 'hku@administrator' was not successful. As I waited longer ComboFix finally ran its course, here is the log:

Click Start/Run,type CMD then press Ok.
At the command prompt copy and paste the following command, then press Enter:
DEL C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\At*.job

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vybeg.tmp

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\poolsv]

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Please run this online virus scan:Activescan using Internet Explorer.
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open...click the Check Now button
Enter your Country
Enter your State/Province
Enter your e-mail address and click send
Select either Home User or Company
Click the big Scan Now button
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
When the scan completes, click the See Report button, then Save Report, and save it to your desktop.
Post the Activescan report in your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log.
Let me know how your pc is running now please.

Ok the Java update was successful. The ActiveScan didnt go too well, on the first try it froze while it scanning the following file: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Help\content_nav4.css". On the second try it froze once again on the very same file. On both tries it was less than 10% done, but it had already found 20 spywares and 2 hacking tools/rootkits. I have not been able to perform a successful scan. At this point, despite our efforts, the pauses/slowness have not improved one bit. Please let me know what you think.
Thank you.

Download\install 'SuperAntiSpyware Home Edition Free Version' from here:
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfi...ANTISPYWAREFREE

Launch SuperAntiSpyware and click on 'Check for updates'.
Once the updates have been installed, exit SuperAntiSpyware.

You might want to print/copy the following as you need to be in Safe Mode from here on.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Start SuperAntiSpyware.
On the main screen click on 'Scan your computer'.
Check: 'Perform Complete Scan'.
Click 'Next' to start the scan.

Superantispyware will now scan your computer, when it's finished it will list all/any infections found.
Make sure everything found has a checkmark next to it,then press 'Next'.
Click on 'Finish' when you've done.

It's possible that the program will ask you to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
Click on 'Preferences'.
Click on the 'Statistics/Logs' tab.
Under 'Scanner Logs' double click on 'SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log'.
It will then open in your default text editor, such as Notepad.
Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply.

Run 'BitDefender Online Scanner' using Internet Explorer:
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html
Read the 'END USER SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT' then click 'I agree'.
You'll be prompted to install the activex control, please do so.
Once installed, disable your current antivirus program, then click the 'Click here to scan' button.
The virus signatures will then load.
Once loaded the scan will start.
The scan will take quite some time so please be patient.
Once the scan has finished select the 'Detected Problems' tab.
Click on 'Click here to export scan'.
Save the file as an HTML file to your desktop.
Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser.
Go to 'Edit'/'Select All' then copy and paste that log into your next reply.
*Note*
Don't forget to re-enable your antivirus program.

Also post a new Hijackthis log,let me know how your pc is running now.

Well it seems the pausing has stopped!! Firefox and IE seem alot faster as well. But just to be on the safe side, let me spend another day browsing and then Ill respond again tomorrow (Monday) with the condition of my computer. Thank You very much Richie.

I had another question, how does one become a member of the HJT team?

Well, the speed has improved. However, unfortunately the pauses are still there. I am noticing the CPU usage jumps to 100% every single time it pauses. As of right now its really acting up; its already paused 15-20 times throughout this whole message. Ive also noticed the pauses occurring shortly after when I open a new tab in Firefox or when i click on a new link (within the same tab) or press the back button (on the same tab). But like I said it also happens at other times as well. Im considering uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox. Ill do the above steps first.

Thank you

Fazal

Hello,

Ok I did all of your steps, I also went ahead and uninstalled/resintalled Firefox. The pauses are still occurring. This problem seems to be pretty stubborn. By the way they dont occur with IE, just Firefox. I didnt understand what you meant by "Let me know how you get on." Anyways, do you have anymore suggestions? Oh and can you please take one more look at my HJT log - knowing my luck I probably caught something new already.
