Hey there, I have been fighting with this virus for almost two weeks now, and everytime I think I get rid of it, it comes back. Also, for some reason my Symantic Anti-Virus has been disabled and I cannot get it to turn back on to "Auto-Protect" mode. I followed the steps found in your message of things to do before I contact you, but I still am having a problem.

I have used Ad-Aware, AVG Anti-Spyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and McAfee Stinger. I have cleaned out my temporary internet files and temp files. I have also started using Sygate Personal Firewall (I never knew the Windows firewall wasn't as secure as I assumed it was).

I ran hijackthis and here is what I got:

Hello DjAngryRob

Download this version of SmitfraudFix by S!Ri from either of these mirrors to your desktop:

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.zip

Right click SmitfraudFix.zip and Extract (unzip) the SmitfraudFix folder inside to your desktop.

Please Reboot your System into Safe Mode
Shut down your system, then Restart your computer as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode

open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Re-scan with HijackThis and post the new log & The C:\rapport.txt in your next reply

Thank you.

Hello DjAngryRob

Copy and Paste this post into a new text document or print it for reference

1. Can you please disable your Real-time when doing this or any fix on your system, to Disable Tea-Timer

Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
Choose Yes at the Warning prompt.
Expand the Tools menu.
Click Resident.
Uncheck the Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active. box.
In the File menu click Exit to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

2. Re-open HijackThis and select "Do a System Scan only" and place a checkmark in the boxes before the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://softwarereferral.com/jump.php?wmid=...6Ojg5&lid=2
O2 - BHO: MSVPS System - {88418AA3-16F5-4FC2-A9D8-90B1266DF841} - C:\WINDOWS\nsduo.dll (file missing)

Close any Explorer windows which may be open and click the "Fix Checked" button.

3. Boot to Safe Mode
  • Restart your computer.
  • Continually tap the F8 button as your computer is booting (a menu appears).
  • Use up-arrow key to select Safe Mode and press Enter.

    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected. <== This is important
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Do not automatically generate reports and uncheck Only if threats were found.
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan your computer.
  • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine <== This is important
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button (*** This must done before saving the report ***)
    • When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
    • Then click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

4. Your last HijackThis log is quite hard to read, to correct this Please Open Notepad, (Start | Run, type Notepad)
Click Format from the Notepad menu and ensure "Word Wrap" is NOT selected. Once you have done that please Re-scan with HijackThis and post the new log, the AVG Scan results and let me know how your system is running.
Thank you.

OK, everything seems to be running alot better! Now when I run Ad-Aware or AVG Anti-Spyware, they both find nothing which is nice (everytime I would run Ad-Aware before, it kept finding stuff). I still have something that I don't recognize trying to access my computer as soon as I turn it on. Sygate catches it and gives me this prompt...

Here it is:

NDIS User Mode I/O Driver (ndisuio.sys) has received a Broadcast packet from the remote machine (192.168.2.30). Do you want to allow this program to access the network?

So I click "No" and every few minutes after I get another message from Sygate.

An application called NDIS User Mode I/O Driver (file name ndisuio.sys) has been blocked from accessing the network.

Is this part of the Ultimate Defeder virus or something else?

I ran one more Hijackthis log. I don't know if anything is still there or maybe I am just being paranoid...

Hello DjAngryRob

For Information on ndisuio.sys please Click Here
ndisuio.sys is a process belonging to the NDIS User Mode I/O (NDISUIO) NDIS protocol driver which offers support for wireless devices such as Bluetooth and the like.

Please note that Logitech Desktop Messenger displays popup messages from Logitech about new products and product updates If you wish to completely remove Logitech Desktop Manager then Go to Start | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs.
If you just want to prevent Desktop Messenger from sending you messages, then Go to Start > Programs > Logitech, and select Desktop Messenger and Uncheck the two notifications check boxes and click Done.

-----------------------

If everything is running fine then please "Disable" and then "Re-Enable" your System Restore.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot.

Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
