While trying to delete Internet Explorer and do a clean download and install of IE I apparently trashed both my notepad and solitaire (so far have not noticed anything else missing).

How do I reinstall those two items without a complete system reinstall? I tried searching for these as a download, but cannot locate one so far.

To replace these or any other missing system files, perform a "scannow" procedure: http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Have you checked your System32 directory?

The original .exe files for these programs are stored there, you may have simply deleted only the shortcuts to these items on your All Programs and Accessories menus.

| Open My Computer >> select C: Drive >> select Windows >> select system32 directory >> scroll down and see if Notepad.exe appears in the listing.

-OR-

| Start >> Run >> C:\windows\system32 >> press [Enter] |

Scroll down and look for notepad.exe

One more place you can check for the notepad.exe file and perhaps other program files you might have misplaced is:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE
