While in the Navy, a new friend asked me for my nickname. The last one I had was "Nail Head" from when I was in the Cub Scouts and I didn't really feel too comfortable with it, especially how I got it, so I told him, "No." He then asked for my first two initials. When I told him that they were "D" and "E", he said "Good, you're "Dog Easy" (from the old phonetic military alphabet). Since I didn't really care, I told him, OK.
Years later when I went with TWA, I was asked for my nickname. By that time, I was comfortable with it so I told the secretary, "Dog Easy". She said that it might be used in publicity blurbs and did I really want to use it. I told her I had been Dog Easy for a long time and that was my nickname.
Glad to be aboard.
