Hey everyone,

I'm new to the BC board and I'm hoping some kind genius out there can help with my poorly PC.

It's a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Windows XP Home. The problem seems to have appeared out of nowhere.
Every time I boot up I get an Application error message on the the 'welcome' screen that reads-

svchost.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x75d0059c" referenced memory at "0x00000001". the memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

I've tried clicking on both options but nothing seems to happen. Then Windows loads as normal (although painfully slowly) and a window appears saying -

Dashboard Module has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Now when I use the PC a lot of programmes crash and I can't connect to the internet without crashing. My Norton anti-virus software is telling me that '1 item is affecting your status', but when I try to run a full system scan, it also crashes.
Everything seems to be running much slower than usual.

I've tried running disk cleanup, system restore and a defrag but nothing seems to get rid of the mysterious (and irritating)message.

Not sure if it's a virus or some kind of memory problem.
If anyone can advise me or point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Custardmite

Most references that I saw about this point to an infection. I'd suggest trying these free, online scans first:

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
