I am having problem on start up. first black and white dell screen stalls at boot up. the loading bar makes it 1/3 of the way and freezes. I can get the computer to start after three or four tries. It seems to help when letting it stay shut off for 30 secs. or so. I unfortunatley have misplaced my auth. code for reinstalling. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sorry I forgot to mention that after running diag. I got "ithr" error code. I can't get the code to repeat after new starts and new diag. I am afraid to shut down and have complete boot fail.

Most references for ITHR refer to either an internal thermal error or improper connection of USB keyboards and mice. I would suspect the thermal event - have you cleaned out the inside of your case?

I'm glad that the BIOS fix worked! We tend to stay away from them here as they're pretty dangerous to do - but it looks like you did just fine! Congrats!
