Am unable to open Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1 0r earlier reader versions. Had previously used Version 7 with no problem. I removed all earlier versions before downloading Version 8.1. I tried repeatedly, using Firefox and Internet Explorer. Usually got message "corrupt file, check sum error". Also have tried i nstalling a copy of Version 8.1 obtained from a friend who has the program running ok. When I attempt to open the program, I get the message :Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and must close". I also get this detail: AppName: acrord32.exe AppVer: 8.1.0.137 ModName: acrord32.dll
ModVer: 8.1.0.137 Offset: 0017506f. Can anyone help me find out what prevents the reader from opening?

1. Uninstall Adobe Reader
2. Rebot
3. Download and reinstall Adobe Reader from here

You can also try a Repair install od Adobe reader.

Let me know your results. We can try somthing else once you attempt this.

This would be a great time to run a Virus and spywere Scan!

I reccomend:
Spybot
AVG Free Anti-Virus
and Ad-Aware
[Make sure to only have one Anti-Virus program installed at a time]

Thanks for the suggestions. I have followed them carefully and completely. but, I cannot open Adobe Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1 even though I have no problem downloading it and installing it! I have also downloaded the Foxit RAeader. But, unfortunately, that reader does not allow me to read the PDF files aloud with my ZoomText program. (I am visually impaired and need ZoomText to read files aloud.) Do you have any more suggestions for me to resolve my problem?

Thanks again for your help.
