I am starting a topic from my other topic under the Windows XP forum. It is located here incase you want to have a look at this first:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...amp;hl=kneesock

It use to be the case that my computer didn't even turn on (it kept restarting itself after the Windows loading screen), but I finally got it to after reinstalling and booting from the Windows CD. I have noticed strange happenings with my other computer (I am using my laptop at the moment to get on the internet, as I do not want to make matters worse until I fix the problem on the other computer). The first thing I noticed is my homepage kept turning to hxxp://www.xxxxx.com/ everytime I got on the internet soon after I downloaded IE 7. I kept changing it back, but it was only good for THAT session on the computer. Once I logged off and back in, it was up to no good again! :flowers: I have service pack 2, but it seems that my HJT log below says service pack one, huh? (Do you know any tips on how to install SP 2 if you originally have it (without accessing the internet)? ex: is there a CD?) Let me know if I need to install that before posting another HJT log. Thanks so much! You guys are a great help!

And yes, I was the one who started another topic with a different HJT log for my laptop, which is having "simliar" problems.

I have gotten SP2 installed and working properly. Here is a new HJT log incase it is needed. Please disregard what I said about the different service packs in my last post. Also, I am pretty experienced with handling computers if that helps at all. If you need any screenshots please let me know. Thank you!

Hello kneesock,

I am SifuMike and I will be helping you. :flowers:

Sorry for the delay. We have many logs backed up.

Before we start, you need to realize that you are missing one important program on that computer: An antivirus.

This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world.

You need to install an antivirus program as soon as you can and run a complete scan of the computer.

I recommend you download the free

Avast or
AntiVir or
AVG antivirus

Products from all three vendors received the Virus Bulletin's VB100% award and certification for virus detection from ICSA Labs.

Never install more than one antivirus scanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give you problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously!

*******************

Download SUPERantispyware
  • Load SUPERantispyware and click the check for updates button.
  • Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
  • Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
  • Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  • Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
  • Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  • Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
  • Copy and paste the SUPERantispyware log to this thread along with a fresh Hijackthis log

Hello SifuMike, it's nice to meet you. It is quite alright, I know there are many people out there having problems just like me!

I hate to say I had troubles in this post as well but then I would be lying if i did.

Okay, I downloaded Avira AntiVir to my computer and installed it over there, it did a scan and detected nothing. Everything was working fine. I clicked on it to check for updates (so I could do another scan w/ the updates)... everything seemed to be going perfectly until the computer literally went "crazy" and it gave me a ton of error messages (I saw 50 at least), "End Program," "Could not find (gave a C:\blah blah blah)," and many other things. I had to end the program by pressing the button on my computer to shut it down. :flowers: Should I try doing the updates again?

Thank you for holding in here with me.

I forgot to add to my last post, one of the error messages I managed to catch was,

DrWatson PostMortem Debugger has detected an error and needs to close.

(This was in an offical End Program window generated by Windows)

AND

I also got the

Windows Explorer has detected an error and needs to close.

message while trying to open a folder/anything.

Hi kneesock

Should I try doing the updates again?

Yes, do the updates and try running it again. You should have done updates before you ran SUPERantispyware. Make sure you read and follow the directions.

Load SUPERantispyware and click the check for updates button.
Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.

You forgot to post the ComboFix log. Do not attach it, as it is hard on my eyes.

Also the Hijackthis log you posted was done with Word Wrap turned on

Please make sure that Word Wrap is turned OFF in Notepad before you copy and paste the HijackThis log here. Take a look at the log you just posted. It's has an number of blank lines between an item :flowers:

So post a fresh Hijakcthis log and make sure you turn off Word Wrap. Thanks.

Ah, I see what you mean. Here is another post. Also, was I suppose to download ComboFix for this computer or was that for my other post? I didn't see it here, but if you want me to do it I have no problem doing so. I will make another post for that once I download and let it run through the program. Sorry!

Hi,

was I suppose to download ComboFix for this computer

Yes. It gets confusing when working on two computers and asking for logs.

NOTE: If you have downloaded ComboFix previously please delete that version and download it again!

1. Download this file - combofix.exe to your Desktop.
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you, C:\ComboFix.txt. Post the ComboFix log and a fresh Hijackthis log in your next reply. Do not attach the logs.
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
