my philips cdrw cdd4581 no longer exists in device manager...the door no longer will open...have i lost power to the burner ?? this happened before and i cleaned my hard drive and my burner reappeared for about 3 weeks...i even burned some cd's during that period...i have an hp pavilion 7955 windows xp home sp2... :thumbsup:

When you turn the computer on do you see the led on the front of the cd light up? Or if you press the open button the led shoudl light up

probably a faulty IDE cable might have to take a look at that, But lik Ginler said could aslo be a faulty drive.
