Hello all,
My concern is with an icon located on my task bar that keeps blinking between a red X and a blue question mark with a pop-up window that has a System Alert! and says that a number of infections have been detected on my computer. When I click on it, it directs me to a website called Virus Protect Pro. When I ran my anti-virus, it identified the site as a virus (trojan ) and my ad-aware program also identified it as malware. I had deleted all the problems that were detected by the virus and ad-aware scans, but the little flashing icon is still there. I ran the Hi-jack this program and have a log report to show you. I hope what I have described makes sense. Thanks in advance for any support and advice.

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum 777s
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri), to your desktop.
Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option 1 – Search, by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy and paste the content of that report into your next reply.

*IMPORTANT*
Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

*Note*
Post all reports/logs directly into this topic, not as attachments, thanks.

Hello Richie
First of all thanks for your quick reply, I really appreciate that. I followed your instructions and everything seemed to work just fine. So here are the text and log files you requested.
I hope I did this right. Thanks again.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Double click on Smitfraudfix.cmd
Select #2 and hit Enter to delete the infected files.
You will be prompted: 'Do you want to clean the registry?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): 'Replace infected file ?' answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process.
The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Post the Smitfraudfix report into your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.
