Hello all,
Started having serious issues after loaning my ancient Jetta book to my brother. By the time I got it back, the IE6 was corrupted beyond belief. After doing everything advised in this checklist, I zapped a good deal of the spyware, specifically 5 entries of Virtu Monde. Since then, the ridiculous pop ups have stopped, the iexplorer.exe process no longer runs on its own (I use Firefox) and the firewall seems to have put a halt on remote spyware coming in and going out. However, I've yet to really regain the same "pep" the laptop used to have. It's certainly not a speedster, but it used to be pretty respectable. Any help assisting me get the crap out that doesn't need to be in my computer would be greatly appreciated. I mean, there's several different svchost.exe, I'm sure there doesn't need to be more than one.

Hi,

I mean, there's several different svchost.exe, I'm sure there doesn't need to be more than one.

Actually it does and more than one instance of svchost.exe is required. Please read here for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314056
If there was only one instance of svchost.exe running, then you would have a problem.

But, in your case, there was also a bad svchost.exe running, not the one present in the system32 folder and I do see that there's still malware active here - so please perform next steps in the right order...

* Please download FixwareOut from the following site:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads, it will open a txtfile - report.txt present in the C:\Fixwareout folder. I need that log later.

Then, * Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot (in case it asks to reboot), combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a bit. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open, combofix.txt.
Post the contents of this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog and the log from FixwareOut
Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt - unless I ask you to.

Hi,

For some reason, Combofix never finished...

Do next please..

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0E7FACDF-C0B2-47F1-8DF2-ABC9B4625A36} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\qopon.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DA81AC8A-487D-4BB4-829B-7D39E399C437} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\vigyme4444.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcay - C:\WINDOWS\System32\ddcay.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtuss - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vtuss.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wvwwt - C:\WINDOWS\System32\wvwwt.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Then,

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\tkkf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yacdd.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yacdd.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmvab.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Alta Gracia\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\svchost.exe

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups

DirLook::
C:\saves
C:\Wacs

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"autoload"=-
"autorun"=-

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

Hi,

That went well. Now I have a Complete Combofix log :thumbsup:

Let's deal with the leftovers now..

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Please hide your hidden files and folders afterwards again, when we are done with this thread and your problems are solved, because above instructions to set your system to show all files, unhide legit files and folders as well.
And I don't want you to delete them because they may look suspicious. To hide them again, just perform the above instructions in the opposite way.

Navigate to and delete next files and folder:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\yacdd.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\twwvw.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\twwvw.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssutv.ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssutv.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssutv.bak1
C:\WINDOWS\b122.exe.bin
C:\Qoobox <== folder

Your HijackThislog looks clean again.
