I have a lap top computer. It has windows xp (if that makes a difference). I've tried several times to defrag it but it wont start. The "enabled" box is checked but the "status" says "could not start". How do I fix this problem so that I can defrag. The computer is a year and a half and I'm sure could use the maintenance

Although any user can access the Defrag console, the ability to analyze or defragment requires Administrator privileges.

Also ensure you have plenty of free drive space available.
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.
