Greetings...

the PC in my mom's house is running fake Windows XP. what are the advantages &/or disadvantages of this? if i'm correct, patches, security updates & new versions of Windows Media Player etc. won't be possible for download.

Any advice &/or recommendation?

Hiya,

Well, such a loaded question as that may attract some very outspoken comments on this site.
As far as I am concerned there are no advantages to running fake copies of Windows; Except I suppose the fact that no licence fee will have been paid.
Disadvantages certainly include the inability to download and install newer versions of media player, internet explorer 7 etc, along with most if not all security and crucial updates.

I suppose as a final thought...........dont run fake windows.

Regards.

Tony.
