Hello, A relative got the Winavxx.exe - antivirus 2007 pro. I downloaded the Smitfraudfix and followed the directions. It deleted the files and went throught the disk cleanup. I hit yes to do the registry clean up and came up with"Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator" after that I restarted the computer. The system messages on the task bar where gone but a new message came up "windows canot find C:\windows\system32\printer.exe. I am still locked out of the Registry, When I tried to run Registry edit it cam up with the same message. The computer is a dell computer with windows xp SP2. Any help would be great. Thank You.

If you have not already done so, please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the files to the Desktop

~~~~
Now, start the computer in Safe Mode:
  • When the machine first starts again, tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
  • Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
  • Press Enter to boot into Safe Mode.
Open SmitfraudFix
  • Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
  • Select Option 2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter (Deletes infected files)
  • You are prompted: Do you want to clean the registry? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool also checks if a relevant file, wininet.dll, is infected.
You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found).
Replace infected file? Answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
~~~~
Restart the computer to complete the removal process.

~~~~
Please run HijackThis once again to obtain a new log.
~~~~
Please post the SmitFraudFix report located at C:\rapport.txt , and a new HijackThis log.

Hi Aaflac

I ran the smitfraud earlier in the week. It deleted the virus/spyware files. But I don't think it deleted the registry files because I was still locked out of the registry at that time. Is it ok to run this again? Will runing it a second time do any damage to the computer. Let me know.

Thanks Mike

hadjajr.ini is picked up by SmitFraudFix.

For now, open the SmitFraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Do not boot to Safe Mode

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
When it is done, a log named rapport.txt is created, listing infected files (if present).

Please post the SmitFraudFix rapport.txt in your reply.

If you are not having malware problems, you are good to go!

Please launch Notepad, (Start > Run, type in: notepad)
Copy/paste all the blue text below to it:

@echo off
if exist "%temp%\log.txt" del "%temp%\log.txt"

for %%g in (
C:\Documents and Settings\Anthony\Desktop\SmitfraudFix
) do (
rd /s/q %%g >nul 2>&1
if exist %%g echo.%%~g>>"%temp%\log.txt"
)
if exist "%temp%\log.txt" ( start notepad "%temp%\log.txt"
) else echo.Deleted Successfully !!

echo.GetObject("winmgmts:" ^& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" ^& "." ^& "\root\default").Get("SystemRestore").Disable("")>SR.vbs
echo.GetObject("winmgmts:" ^& "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" ^& "." ^& "\root\default").Get("SystemRestore").Enable("")>>SR.vbs
wscript SR.vbs

(
echo.REGEDIT4&echo.
echo.[hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\advanced]
echo."hidden"=dword:00000002
echo."hidefileext"=dword:00000001
echo."showsuperhidden"=dword:00000000
)>rehide.reg

regedit /s rehide.reg
del rehide.reg SR.vbs
nircmd wait 7000
del %0

In Notepad, go to File (upper menu bar), and select: Save as
In the Save as prompt:
Save in: Desktop
File Name: Wrap.bat
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save
Exit out of Notepad

Next, on the Desktop, double click on Wrap.bat and allow it to run
It should look like this: Posted Image

The batch deletes the folders of the tools used, resets System Restore, and hides system files/folders.

After running, Deleted Successfully appears on the screen. If it does not, please let us know!!

Some of the best suggestions and programs to remain malware free are contained in Tony Klein’s article:
How Did I Get Infected In The First Place

It is also a very good practice to perform an online virus scan on a regular basis.
Scanners do not have identical malware definitions, and what one misses, another one can catch.
Some of the scanners are:
BitDefender Online Scanner
ESET NOD32 Online Scanner
F-Secure Online Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
TrendMicro HouseCall

If you have any questions or comments, post back. Otherwise...

Good luck, and safe journey through the Internet!!
