I keep getting an everexpanding and mutating group of malware executables installing from the net, the worst so far being the dddd.exe a dialer that crashes my system. I try clear them all out manually.

All of these install directly under C: for example:

fgrr.exe
sfee.exe
sede.exe
dfe.exe
htt.exe
eree.exe
dddd.exe ("Private Dialer")

These three (so far) install in Windows Temp

1.exe
2.exe
iinstall.exe

And there are more installing under the System folder. I get more and more of these every time I get online, though I delete every one of them and empty the recycle bin every time.

Zone alarm keeps most of them from getting back out, but it doesn't stop the dialer from attempting to connect and dial. At that point or before that point, my system locks up and I have to shut down. I run (in Safe Mode) Window Washer, AVG antivirus, Spybot, AdAware free version, and CW shredder, but none of these gets rid of the cause nor even catches any of these executables. Then I run HijackThis. I do not know exactly how to use it, but I tried to delete all the trusted IPs and these two are sticking, and will not delete:

finefind.nettraffic2cash.biz

Trusted IP Range: 206.161.125.149

Here is the HijackThis scan results after I have done a thorough cleaning. I need to know what the real culprit is here, probably some registry entries I need to delete???

I also get the following error message:

RundllL: "Error inwnim.dll Missing Entry"

After I clear everything out, I am able to get on the net for about ten minutes, then these executables start loading up again.

My system is Win98 and IE6. I downloaded Opera browser to see if that will enable me to stay online longer.

Well, if anyone knows what I can do about this, please kindly clue me in!

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Download the DelDomains zip file and unzip it to your desktop.

DelDomains

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Reboot your computer,

Next,
Download CWShredder from the below link and unzip it into a directory. Start CWShredder and click on the FIx button to have it remove all CWS infections it finds.

Download CWShredder from one of the following sites:

CWShredder Download Site

After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Make sure all browser windows are closed and double click on the cwshredder.exe to start the program. When the program is loaded click on the "Check for Update" button, and if it finds an new version it will download it. You should then double click on cwshredder.exe again and click on the "FIX" button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

To get the best results it is recommended that you run it in safe mode. Reboot windows and press F8 at boot/windows startup, usually right after the beep. Then select safe mode.

A tutorial that goes over this process step by step can be found here:

How to remove CoolWebSearch with CWShredder

Once that is completed you should follow these steps in order to clean your computer of Malware which can include Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Hijackers and Dialers

Step 1:
Download Spybot and Adaware from the following locations and install them. You should run both programs and clean up what it finds. This is to gaurantee that you find the most malware you can installed on your computer.

Before running the scans on both programs, it is mandatory that you update the programs. There are update options in each program when you run them.

Spybot

Ad-aware

If you would like to learn more about how to use these two programs with the proper settings you can read the tutorials below:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware & Hijackers from Your Computer.

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware from Your Computer.

When you scan with both programs, fix everything that it finds.

Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean. Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

Then scan again with HijackThis and post another log.

Hello don77

Thanks for trying to help me out. I certainly need it because this is now a five day old nightmare for me.

I have already had Spybot, AdAware, CW Shredder, AVG and HighJackThis installed and updated. I have already scanned in SafeMode too. I have been regularly deleting every suspect file also and when it is all done I run Window Washer to clean everything completely out off the harddrive. The only things I hadn't done was to get this DelDomains.inf but when I go to the link, I only get the following plain text file with no objects or links to click on:

; DelDomains.inf
; Created by: Mike Burgess Microsoft MVP

;

; Select Install from the Menu.

The only other things I hadn't done before were to do the TrendMicro's HouseCall and ActiveScans online, but I cannot stay online long enough to do this because after about five or ten minutes I get hammered again by these loading executables. Then everything locks up, so online scanning seems out of the question. Now posting the latest HJT scan results:

Thanks for your time,

Paul

We need you to fix the following entries please. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Hi Paul,
Lets run through this

First,
Download Pocket Killbox from. Here Paste the full file path (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\hegienelm.exe ) in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes"

Next,
I ahd you download DelDomains to your desk top earlier, You need to right click on the DelDomains on your desk top and choose "Install" then reboot.
" Make sure you don't choose Open"

Next
We need you to fix the following entries please. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Hello Don

Thanks, but yesterday I may have deleted a file I shouldn't have as Explorer could no longer load forcing me to reinstall windows. I really appreciate your efforts though and will recommend the forum to others. Right now, since I have reinstalled, I am hoping to protect and BLOCK any further malware from downloading in the first place. I am going to try SpywareBlaster and SpyGuard as well as be careful about what links I click on.

Sorry to hear that Paul,

Here are a few simple steps to help in keeping your computer properly protected

[*]Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
[*]Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

[*]Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

[*]Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls

[*]Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

[*]Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

[*]Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

[*]Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

[*]Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
[/LIST]Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
