Explorer.exe/desktop Will Not Load

Hey gang, I'm stuck in a rut here. I'm hoping someone can help me, so here it goes.

A few days ago, maybe Thursday, I saw that I really needed to free up some space on my hard drive. So I deleted some music files, deleted my temporary internet files, and got rit of programs I didn't need anymore. I wanted to run Disk Cleanup, but for some reason it didn't start or it seemed like it stayed at 1%. I then went to Disk Defrag. and saw I did not have the 15% of HD spacec available required to run Disk Defragmentation. Stupid me, I ran it and it analyzed my C: drive, but I believe it never completed the actual defrag as I canceled the process. Next thing you know, my Desktop acts up and now I have no explorer.exe!

I've tried to see if running in safe mode helped, but didn't help. Bear in mind that I am still able to bring up Task Manger (CRTL+ALT+DEL) to run any other program beside explorer.exe which I tried to start up through Task Manager, but the "START" bar flashed for a second and went away. Lemme rephrase that:

Explorer.exe does not respond anymore, the only way I can get to my programs is through Task Manager.

1. I've tried starting explorer.exe through Task Manager, but doesn't work.
2. Tried running it on safe mode, didn't work.
3. As far as I know, there are no viruses and/or spyware on my computer.
4. This problem started after I attempted to run Defrag, but Defrag failed because I had less than 15% required.
5. Oddly enough, I attempted to do a system restore, but when I picked the date I wanted, I clicked "Next", but the System Restore just stood there and did nothing.

I've read somewhere that running "sfc /scannow" may help, but I don't have my Windows XP CD handy.

Sorry for the delay. If you are still having a problem please do the following:
  • Download Combofix to your desktop.

  • Doubleclick combofix.exe

  • Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, and after reboot if it asks for one, combofix will open again to gather the necessary information for the log. This may take a while so please be patient. When done, Combofix will close and a log should open called combofix.txt.

Post the contents of this log in your next reply along with a new hijackthislog.

Please do not post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask you to.
