Hi and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
I have tried to include as much information as I could to help.
Machine and system: Gateway Pintum 3, 1000 gz. 512 rm.
Win XP, AVG virus ware & Nortonís, (disabled) Registry Mechanic, Ad Aware SE Personal, Spybot search and destroy, Hijack This, MS Office Suite.

I first noticed 5 days ago that Outlook was changing information such as appointment dates and times and this morning all information (all data including phone numbers) have been erased. The system has starting to take a long time to boot up and there is a file (Perflib_Perfdata_154.dat) in my temp file that I canít delete.. Each time I have tried there will be an error message ďCannot delete Perflib_Perfdata_154: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.Ē This file will reproduce each time the system is shut down and will change the set of numbers and letters in the last 6 digits. I can delete all the files but the one I get the error message on. It took the icon of the Nero program but I uninstalled Nero and it now has the unrecognized program icon. I was told by a computer savvy friend that this sounds like a Trojan virus.
I am including a Hijack This log.

Thank you for the help

Hello,

I don't see anything malicious in your log. Are you still having your original problem? Please make sure AVG AntiSpyware is fully updated then run a scan for me, please and post the report in your reply. Let me know how it's running.

  • If your antivirus has a script blocker, you will get a warning asking if you want to allow Silent Runners.vbs to run.
  • This script is not malicious so please allow it.
  • A text file will appear in the folder - it's not done, let it run. (It won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once the "All Done!" prompt flashes up, open the text file, and copy & paste it in your next reply.

Hello,

Yay! Thanks for that. But....guess what? Nothing there to see. Can you give me an exact path to the file in question, please?

Thank you!

Hi Ron,

Is there anything in it?

Go to start -> control panel -> Display properties -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop... -> Web tab, then uncheck and delete everything you find in there (except for "My current home page"),

Also remove the checkmark from the the Lock Desktop Items box if it is checked.
Apply.
Apply and Exit Display properties.

Please let me know what you find.

Thanks,
tea
